Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *OS Update
Back on Ebay they go... I will put my 2212's (2.0ghz) back in for now. Do you guys think it would be worth while to upgrade to 2220's (2.8ghz) processors and forget about the quads?

Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *OS Update
Thanks Jeff. I upgraded the BIOS with the old processors still installed, then swapped the duals for the quads. Windows sees all 8 cores but PT seems to be slower than before. CPU usage meter is...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC(8-core) and Quadzilla(4-core) *OS Update
Just about to upgrade my Quad (Tyan 2927) to an Octo with (2) 2347 chips. Will I need to reinstall Windows and the chipset drivers as well, or is updateing the BIOS all I need to do?

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*
Thanks a lot for making that call to them and for the update. That does make a lot of sense now. I'll do some tests tonight as well and report back. Maybe I can get more than 137 d-verbs with the...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*
I got 137 d-verbs last night with 4 512 sticks installed in P1_DIMM1 and P1_DIMM3 on both CPU's (2212). Seems about average. Now there are 3 possibilies for the RAM. P1_DIMM1 and P1_DIMM3,...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*
Anyone for a tie breaker?? The manual is very unclear but seems to say 1 an 3, but if Tyan says 1 and 2 I guess that is correct. What do you think Matt? I have 4 sticks of Kingston 512mb 667mhz. ...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*
What slots did you guys put the ram in on th s2927? My understanding from the manual was that they should be in slots 1 and 3 on both CPUs. Is that correct? Also, I was a little confused as to...

Re: another new Quadder to be...
Yeah I think you may be right Jon. I have been reading that the board requires 3.5" pitched coolers and I think the stock 940/939s are 4.1". I guess I will use the Zalmans. I wonder if AMD socket...

Re: another new Quadder to be...
Thanks again Jon. I have 2 Zalman 9500 AM2s still in the box but they are so big, I think I will have space issues with them. I will try the stock AMD Opteron 2XX heatsink/fans and report back. I...

Re: another new Quadder to be...
No I don't want to use 2xx chips, just the heatsinks/fans. Just wondering if they will fit into the brackets that install on either side of the processors.

Re: another new Quadder to be...
Thanks a lot Jon. I can pick up stock Opteron 2xx (940, 939) coolers on ebay for $10 each. Noise is not an issue for me, I am just not sure if they will fit on the Tyan 2927. Do you know if they...

Re: another new Quadder to be...
Thanks for the info Jon. Those coolers are BEAST'S! Would just stock AMD Opteron 2xx coolers work with this board? Are the Zalman's worth the extra work and money?

Thanks a lot for posting that info and the links to the correct drivers. I am just about to build a similar system with the 2927 and was having trouble determining the correct chipset driver. Jon,...

Re: The Allenstein Quadzilla Machine
Thanks for the replies. Do you know if stock AMD Opteron 270 fans will work with this board by any chance? I have a machine room so noise isn't that much of a factor. I also have an Antec 420w...

Re: The Allenstein Quadzilla Machine
I'm not finding too much information on Quads built around the 2xxx AMD Opterons. I see a few people have done it. I am ready to jump in, but it seems it would be better to spend the money on...
