Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Just a little update- using an external USB drive I got 110 dverbs- not as much as I expected, but really the true measure will be using firewire.

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Ok, so I FINALLY got to do the Dverb test (version 2). I didn't have an external drive handy, but just had to try.

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

I ended up buying a 15.6" MSI A6200 from Office Depot. It has an i5, 4gb of ram and it's a pretty sweet deal at $599. Can't test it with Pro Tools yet, though, as I've got 7.4 and this is running...

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

That's odd, I found it immediately, under "Specs." It has both HDMI and Firewire.

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Well, the comparable MacBook is more expensive (by $150!), not sure if it has a lesser processor, half the RAM, a smaller hard drive, and a smaller screen.

Oh, and no firewire, either.

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

That's exactly the one I was looking at. Please let us know as soon as you can!

I was thinking about getting it with a SmartBay and running an SSD as the system drive. I can only imagine how quick...

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Ok, guys, go easy on me, I'm a bit confused.

Basically, I have to get a laptop for portable recording purposes, but I'm a desktop kinda guy. I've got a Q6600 "Quadzilla" desktop that I built...

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

If I understand what you're asking correctly, then you don't have to worry about this- when you install PT, it doesn't ask you what drive you're going to be recording to. Once you've got PT installed...
