Let’s start with basic info: Mac or Windows? What is the session sample rate? Where do your system sounds (music, beeps, internet, etc)...

Also, when you get the pop-up window about the i/o being changed (before the session opens to the edit/mix window) its good...

It won't recall the selection, but it remembers where to unfold the folders/subfolders to (and resize the window to what you set it to make it all visible.)

set a preset that opens the left side to the folder you are going to link to.
Then you just have to click the preset (1-5) and then check the folder.

It's just a serial MIDI protocol.
And the MTRX (DAD) pres are as third-party as any other really (they pre-date the partnership with Avid as does their protocol implementation)

Surround for the mid-level tier (just called Pro Tools at that point) was not allowed until 2022.4. When the name changed to Pro Tools Studio.

Before that, surround was only for Ultimate.

Do you have autospot on?
If so, turn that off (auto spot is different from just Spot mode; autospot is an option under the Options menu.) Autospot can throw your clips to the end or very beginning...
