Re: Mono to Stero tracks

Massey has a Mono>Stereo plug as part of the "Massey Tools v0.5.3 beta" it just splits the mono to stereo, and it's free to boot. I use it quite a bit for this sort of thing.

Re: SSL 4000 Plugins vs Bomb Factory

try the demo and see for yourself!

IMHO, the Waves SSL plugs are awesome, and i use them far more than any of the stock Digi/BF plugs. Part of this is tone, and part of this is because of the way...

Re: ///free mastering plugs

the only plugin i see in that list is an L2, which certainly isn't free. in fact, that's somewhere around a $50k list. are you expecting to find something equivalent for free? you can get a very...

Re: Live Band Recording to 2 Tracks (PA Mix)

Ditto on the stereo mics to mix with the board tape. I routinely ask the FOH to give me a board feed to a hard disk/CD/whatever and mix it with the stereo recording from my cheap little handheld...

Re: Too much fret noises

As everyone has said, the mic technique and playing technique are most important. The best solution is to get it right going in rather than try to fix it in the box.

That said, I have had...

Re: Bass Guitar

Without knowing what type of Bass you're using, it's impossible to make a solid recommendation as to how to improve the sound. As a bassist and engineer, i agree that it's the RARE guitarist who can...

Re: 8 Core Mac Pro users...

i'm set to use 7. works great, no hiccups, more power than i've ever needed. (i don't use many VIs, though.) YMMV.

i do this on my old G5 and my new Mac Pro, so that others can use the protools rigs without having access to my personal stuff. also allows each person to save prefs in protools the way they prefer....

Re: Headphones for Monitoring/Mixing/Recording

I also run a one room studio at the moment. The rule is: if you're listening on headphones, they must not leak into the mics, which means closed back designs, and good ones at that. I've used and...

Re: Using Stems for better mixes Less math =fewer audible er

I'm not a proponent one way or another - just thinking through the possibilities. In my typical mix, I keep the reverb and most delays on aux tracks and use sends from each track to the reverb and/or...

Re: Using Stems for better mixes Less math =fewer audible er

just wondering... How much of the additional clarity when doing stems may just be the result of having fewer tracks going to the verb sends on each stem? I would think that not having the guitars and...

Re: GearBox Line 6 Plugin

well, for a hundred bucks, you can't really go wrong. I'm using it to process the DI signal on guitars, with a similar setting to the tracks recorded from the mic'd amp, and it thickens the guitars...

Re: 8- Core Mac\'s, OSX.5.3 or 4, Silence is Deafening

been too busy recording and mixing with it to say much. Its awesome. Way powerful. I can't seem to max it out. Sessions which seriously drag on my old G5 don't even hiccup on the Mac Pro. I no longer...

Re: LE + Mac Pro - OR - HD system?

I've been tracking through an 003 to a 1.8Ghz G5 for the past 6 months - typically 18 tracks at a time, clocked off a Mackie 8 channel pre (ADAT over optical) at 128, and have had very, very few...

Re: Waves Plugin Users - Please Gimmie Feedback

I tried demos of the Waves SSL and V bundles, and the URS everything bundle last week. They are all really nice plugs, and I could find a use for any of them, but I found myself reaching for the SSL...

Re: Pro Tools 7.4 + Leopard -> working

I am running Leopard 10.5.2 on a new Mac Pro (2.8Ghz, 4GB RAM) with LE 7.4 and everything is pretty smooth for not being officially supported. I haven't had any issues except the yellow Xpand! which...

Re: Preamp Question

i'm currently using the TLM 103 for vocals, and i didn't really like it till i found the right pre for it. it was thin and tinny at first when i tried the stock 003 pre, and the dbx 586 and 376, as...

Re: Playing iTunes through 002R

I run my Mac's sound output into the Alt inputs on the back of the 002 (Stereo 1/8" to 2 RCAs). Then pressing the "Alt Src to Mon" button on the front of the 002 routes the audio through, whether Pro...

Re: Using a 002R with an older G5 Power Mac? Any users?

I run a DP 1.8 PowerMac with the 002R. Mine is the June 2004 model though, and doesn't have PCI-X, but regular old PCI (and only 4 RAM slots - loaded with 2GB at present). I'm currently on LE 7.3,...
