Thanks guys. Figured it out. Turns out there actually WAS some low level audio - some hum below 30Hz. Will have to investigate at the stage tomorrow as to what is causing the issue. AES...

For the air-con RX has a broadband noise reduction algorithm that works quite well - just don't overdo...
