Definitely try before you buy! The 1176's have a distinct sound. Rupert Neve has made some of the best sounding gear ever, but, it will not be the same as your 1176s.

FWIW I record a VO talent via ISDN that, for whatever reasons the talent has, occasionally bridges SC to ISDN for our sessions. The sound quality of the bridged sesions are not as good as the ISDN...

Another vote against AC3. Be careful when combining LtRt and other stems. Make sure that phase alignment is spot on and check stereo & mono down mixes.
