Re: I am so done with resetting my buffer every 5 minutes (AAE error -9173)

Well, from everything I've seen in the forums, this seems to be widespread and not setup dependent. But here's what I'm running:

OS 10.8.5, PT 12.4, 2 x 2.26 Quad Core Intel Xeon (8...

I am so done with resetting my buffer every 5 minutes (AAE error -9173 in 12.4)

Avid - I love so many things about 12.4. But seriously, the CPU spikes are a complete vibe and creativity block. I have to go in and toggle my buffer at least 30 times a day because I get a spike and...

Re: Protools 10HD upgrade to from 9 is 999.99 ..... WHY

The $1k upgrade is just too high for me to want to do it.

I do record production/recording/mixing and post audio composing/mixing - the features in 10 are good (clip based gain! disk cache!) and...

Jeez, even the royal family's microphones are tacky.

Re: Mac Octo 2.26: Almost no difference between 2 Cores and 8 Cores

Sure, I set 7 or 8 threads which gives better performance than 15 or 16 (which makes it appear to me that PT9 is not using hyperthreading at all, or if it is, it's not using it properly). I just...

Re: Mac Octo 2.26: Almost no difference between 2 Cores and 8 Cores

That's good to know. If that's the case, I would expect to see the percentage on the PT meter drop as I add cores/threads, but it doesn't. It actually goes up. So does the Mac meter.

Plugs:

Re: Mac Octo 2.26: Almost no difference between 2 Cores and 8 Cores

In my case, as I increase cores, the Mac system meter shows increasing stress, but much more than the PT meter.

And the strange thing is, that anything over 8 cores gives diminishing performance,...

Mac Octo 2.26: Almost no difference between 2 Cores and 8 Cores

I'm fairly new to the high powered Mac thing running native (been on HD with G4's for a while).

I'm confused because it doesn't seem to make much difference at all how many cores I select for the...

Re: Protools 6.4.1 Crashing at startup

Are you using Altiverb or other HTDM plugs or RTAS Autotunes in the session? I've had similar issues when there are Altiverb HTDM instances, especially if there are also RTAS plugs in the session...

DAE Error 7101 and 7100 on Mix system

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help out with this problem:

My rig: Mix Core, 2 Mix Farms, 1 dsp Farm. G4 733 maxed RAM, OSX 10.3.9, PT 6.4.1cs4. All cards pass Digitest.

This morning I installed...

Re: In Favor of Bringing Back the Old Digi Website

I've been thinking of picking up an MBox so I can do some work up at the cottage, so I thought I'd check out some info on the new digi site. Just navigating is a pita. Who came up with the idea for...

Re: MASTERING?

I find that Maxim and T-Rack are both very grainy. Maxim is much more audible than the L2.

I use saturation more than limiting to achieve loudness. If I'm using plugs only, after a combination of...

Re: Micrphone For Snare Drum

I use the Audix i5 regularly (and an Audix D6 for rock kicks). It generally beats the 57 on snare for me--needs less EQ. Sometimes I'll tape a Neumann KM100 or an AKG 414 to it (so it's phase aligned...

Re: Cool new multi fx plugin from Synaptricity

It may be a cool plug--I'm actually looking for something to sync vibrato and trem to clock. Their website blows, though.

How about some info on compatibility? PT7 only? PT 6 compatible? The...

Re: Smack LE

Actually, the answer is "yes" for HD, and "maybe" for a Mix system.

Smack! TDM is HD only, and will not work on a Mix system.

You can, however use Smack RTAS. If the TDM system you want to use...

Re: Tape Head saturation plugin

Sounds a little more crunchy than punchy to me. I'll stick with Pheonix for most applications, but I have had lovely results a synth bass that I wanted to distort.

Re: Converting to MP3

You don't have to use MP3's to send stuff via internet. You can send full res .wavs with www.yousendit.com (http://www.yousendit.com) (you can send up to a gig this way). You can even make a zip...

Re: Which plugins would you choose??

I don't have TL Aggro, but I do have Smack and Slightly Rude. I think Slightly Rude is underrated--it has a great feature where it will not clip the output--it just slams to zero and saturates. If...
