Mixing Multiple Vocals

I know this isn't exactly a PT question, but next week I am going to be doing live sound for a jazz vocal group, so there are roughly 20 people all singing with SM58's into a board. Do you guys have...

Re: Please critique my mix!!!

Is it necessary to 'ride the faders'? I always just draw out my automation instead of doing it manually like that, I guess I just prefer it that way.

Re: Firewire chaining

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably chain for now, and then upgrade (hopefully soon) to an ExpressCard just to be safe in the future.

Firewire chaining

So I recently got myself a Profire2626, and it is awesome! I have been recording 8 tracks of drums recently, but as I am doing more editing and stuff, and foresee lots of mixing in the near future, I...

Re: Help me figure out this crazy time signature/tempo change..

Was the song written like that? Cause that's some pretty crazy stuff going on there. I am writing a song in 7/8 and that's interesting enough for me write now!

Re: Midi volume

Then you'll have to do what nst7 said, maybe there is a setting on your MIDI controller to change that?

Re: Solved my Drumming Nightmare...

No, doing that you created it yourself, so I don't believe you can copyright that. That would be almost like Metallica trying to copyright the 'E' chord. However, if you lifted that drum beat...

Re: Solved my Drumming Nightmare...

I know for sure that chord progressions aren't copyrightable. I don't think drum patterns could be either, unless it's a sample. I am pretty sure if you use samples from another song, you have to pay...

Re: Solved my Drumming Nightmare...

I find that drum samplers are good for throwing together something quick and for writing and stuff, but acoustic drums have much more potential for sounding better and more intimate and real. They...

Re: help with funk mix...

Also, if you listen to a lot of funk (which I'm guessing you probably do) than use those records as a basis. You probably have a favorite funk artist, listen to what they do.

Re: Profire 2626 Inputs

Yeah, that makes sense. I'll probably play around with it a bit. I don't know if I have the budget to buy a nice DI. Unless it's crucial to getting a good bass sound, which seems to me might be the...

Re: Creating "distant" effect on Virtual instruments?

Reading through all of this I thought about sound editors in movies and how they have to add complicated stuff like this in everywhere in the movies. Usually so well you don't even notice that it's...

Re: Profire 2626 Inputs

Ok sweet. I am getting a Profire 2626 (whenever a store gets them in stock) and was making sure I don't need to buy a nice DI box as well. Thanks!

Profire 2626 Inputs

I just had a quick question. When recording a dry guitar sound directly into the computer to either use an amp sim or to re-amp later on, you're supposed to use a DI box rather than a direct line in?...

Re: How do I get a "Deep" vocal effect?

Ha, I didn't notice that the first time, that's pretty good.

I listened to it a few times and didn't notice any gap at all. It's the percussiveness of the vocals that makes it sound like there is.

Re: Rewiring Reaper

Alright, thanks for your help. I think I might get a firewire interface and record using Reaper so I can get 8 or even 16 tracks in easily. Thanks. Then I would switch over to PT for editing and...

Rewiring Reaper

I know that it's possible to rewire Reaper into a track (or multiple tracks) into Pro Tools, and was wondering a few things.

Since Reaper can run VST plugins, could I not just use Reaper for any...

Re: will this work or is it a dumb idea?

It's not like double tracking, it is so you can blend the tone of two or more amps together to get a more unique tone. Its also just as natural, because it's you playing, just through a different amp.

I was wondering if anyone knows the shortcuts for changing the note values in either the MIDI editor or score editor, since I'm assuming they are the same. I don't want to have to click the menu each...

Re: Is my laptop powerful enough for PT8 LE?

Is that where this awful hardware buffer error comes from? I have problems with it sometimes running just one track. My harddrive is a 1 TB 7200 RPM FW800 drive. But it doesn't run that special...

Re: Mixing and mastering

The first and only time I recorded for someone else she was in a rush, so we had to track vocals and piano first, then add in guitar. Then I had to find some people to play bass and drums, and HOPE...

Re: Mixing and mastering

$2k for mixing one song? That's not bad. All of the studios I know of (larger ones too) mix for less than that. $500 per song including the producer spending time making the song better, or $50-$70...

Re: Composing in PT...

Totally agree with that. You're a guitarist, so your writing will be done with guitar. You fiddle around till you come up with something awesome, then once recorded you can add drums that complement...

Re: Things I am Tired of Hearing Ppl say about Mixing

Paul Gilbert said that as well, but I think its the same with anyone on any instrument. You can use the same equipment and the same settings, and it won't sound like the next guy at all.
