i would suggest vienna ensemble pro.

i also find that there is better performance in VEP w/ Kontakt when Kontakt is instantiated as a VST plugin, not AU.

i run stupidly large midi score...

have you installed yet? i have it in myVSL, but am waiting on the sidelines until i feel it's solid enough to upgrade. i think VSL have already made several updates since release...

Yup. At some point in the not so distant past, i noticed that VST Kontakt in VEP was a bit more RAM efficient than AU Kontakt. I just developed the habit of never using AU plugs in VEP, so you should...

Correct -
1. Problem arose when VEP6 was in a session, and was not present when VEP6 was not in a session. So... VEP6 was main apparatus causing the problem.

VSL support has been in touch. they are aware of a bug in their hosting code which may be causing this. they also suspect that the problem may be specifically related to the AU...

Adding just two blank instances of VEP 6 [unconnected] really messed up the GUI responsiveness.

Great, cos I only rely VEP integrating with Pro Tools for... i dunno, everything.

Update: I've left this 490 track test session running for about 3 hours now, and everything is working fine!!! I even added some Aux w/ Altiverb, Soundtoys and Izotope Ozone 8.

Test Session: 480 MIDI Tracks + 10 native instances of Kontakt as separate instrument tracks. No issues yet. Session and GUI responsiveness are very acceptable.

I don't want to get ahead of myself here, but I think these steps have definitely mitigated the issue. However...About 1 hour in, things start getting a bit sluggish. Track redraws take extra time...

No hardware. VIs only, with everything routed through VEP6. (Less than 10 instances of VEP in the PT session itself.)

Yes, trashcan Mac Pro and OS Sierra 10.12.6.

I am not sure if this is related or a unique bug on its own - in large MIDI sessions, adding new tracks or even moving or hiding/un-hiding existing tracks in the session causes PT GUI to temporarily...
