Controlling the Compressor

Is there a way to have a compressor kick in at a certain time? I want the compressor to clamp down after the attack time, not at the attack rate if you know what I mean.

Is there another way to...

Swap region without affecting automation data?

Is it possible to swap out different regions while leaving the automation data on a track intact?

Looked in the manual but couldn't find it...

Re: About Zero crossings

Granted what you hear counts is whats important, but does anyone actually know the meaning behind zero crossings and 'alternating' waveforms?

About Zero crossings

I understand that a zero crossing is where the amplitude of a waveform = -inf. What I don't understand is what the direction means and if there is a problem with edits that don't retain the...

Re: Mix Tips for harder drums

Thanks for the reply where,

I did notice that eq'ing out the low mids and allowing more high frequencey energy to hit peak level made things sound harder. However they also change the drum sound....

Mix Tips for harder drums

Trying to make my drums sounds harder in the mix. NY compression certainly helps, bringing the drums closer and subjectively louder, but what I'm really looking for is 'harder'... more aggressive.

Sliding region contents

Whenever I slide the contents of a region I have to deal with the clicks until I find the right spot. Then I fade it and it's all good. I'm just wondering if there is a workaround for this so that...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary

SSRJazz,

My concern is not the length of the BTD file. It's the length of the sound that I'm concerned about. I describe this in more detail above. I can email you the session if you want to...

Anyone using marblesound with PT?

Is anyone using marblesound virtual midi cable with PT? (www.marblesound.com).

I want to be able to edit my tx802 using some librarian software but still control it via midi from pro tools. I...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

I just tried the same thing with a digi eq and I see a similar result.

By the way, I'm adding some boost on these eq curves. If I leave the eq flat, there is no extension of the original click...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

If I select only 94 samples and BTD, then the resulting audio file is of course 94 samples long.

By the way I'm using 2 waves RenEQ 6 Band in serial. (I tried bypassing one then both and each...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

It sounds (and looks in Cooledit) like the click audio waveform is being extended and faded out. This is a problem because I actually want the region to end abruptly.

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

Reading above I know I sound vague because I'm not clear whether I'm talking about audio or audio that contains a waveform. At the expense of sounding like a complete moron, let me describe this in...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

Rail that's not what I'm saying. I don't care how long the BTD audio file is. It's how long the click that I'm designing is. The click sound that I'm hearing is longer than the region that...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

Sorry if I'm not being clear, but what I'm trying to say is that there is no other audio in the session. I'm designing the click part of a drum sound. This click sound is trimmed to 94 samples in...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

If I select the region before BTD, it's 94 samples. After BTD, it's 94 samples.

If I select a region that extends beyond my region (250 samples), then do a BTD, the bounced region contains...

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

I had no selection before. I just had the region sitting there at bar 0 in a 2 beat loop, which somes out to 80182 samples long. I just retried it without a selection and same deal.

Re: Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

I tried switching the eq's to a flat setting and once bounced, it's 94 samples again.

With my eq settings on, however, the region fades out to a length of 500 samples or so.

Why do I hear sound beyond the region boundary?

I'm doing some drum sound design in PT and I'm working on a region that is trimmed to 94 samples in length. I put some waves RenEq on it and when I bounce it to disk and look at it in CoolEdit -its...

Re: Compression Technique

Mersisblue, how will that work?

Considering the threshold has to be low enough for the compressor to be triggered, no matter how fast the release is, the sustain portion can never be higher than...

Re: Compression Technique

Thanks for the reply, but I think you must have thought I'm trying to make the sustain portion louder by compressing then pushing up the make up gain. When I say louder I mean louder than the attack...

Is it possible to use a compressor to make the sustain portion of a drum louder than the attack portion?

How to move things up and down in a mix?

Movings thing left to right is simple enough. Front to back isn't too hard either. But how about up and down?

Anyone care to share some insights?
