recurring "fffssst" /static sound

For the last couple of months I've been getting an approximately 0.5 sec long static blast sound that reoccurs every two to three seconds on my 002/ PC setup. It shows up on the master channel whether or not the tracks are playing or not. I've tried everything I can think of. Any help out there???
Thanks all,
Allen

The link isn't working for me. Do you have any IK Multimedia plugins? When they are in demo mode, they make a noise every few seconds. Try holding the SHIFT key while you open a session(this makes all plugins inactive) and see if the noise goes away. If you go into preferences and select to sort plugins by manufacturer and category, click OK>click on any track's insert slot and select(try them all) one of the IK plugins, if its in demo mode, it will popup a box for authorization. If you own the full version, you need to authorize it to get rid of the noise. If you don't own the full plugin, go to your plugins folder and remove the 2 files that correspond to that plugin.

If its not a plug then I bet its a MB with built in NVIDIA graphics.

Hey! FWIW I got this annoying noise just recently. It would only happen on one session and I could reproduce the sound everytime. Turns out my Audio drive was heavily fragmented. I did a defrag and the sound went away....

Sorry, I should have tried the link before posting-it will not work for me either.

Re: recurring "fffssst" /static sound

Things I am suspicious of:

FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : VIA VT6306 VIA Fire II IEEE-1394 OHCI Link Layer Controller-I thought VIA was a show stopper

Model : AMD Phenom(tm) 8750 Triple-Core Processor
Speed : 1GHz- Not enough horsepower

Total Memory : 1.88GB DIMM DDR2-shouldn't this be 2GB? Sounds like integrated graphics, another show stopper for many

Which drive are you recording to? 5400 rpm drives are not supported, and neither is recording to a partition of the system drive. FAT32 might be a problem as well(not sure on that). You also didn't answer if you have any IK Multimedia plugins. They will make that sound if they are in DEMO mode(just open the plugin and see if you get a popup requesting authorization).

So sorry. . . and really embarrassing....I was so happy to get the Sandra rep. done that I forgot that I was on my "online PC" and not my PTs PC. I'll get on over there and try to repeat the process.
So sorry!
