Replacing USB on Eleven Rack with Firewire?

I'm considering putting together a simple mobile rig using a MacbookPro and an Eleven Rack.

The only thing though is I'm actually curious if the USB interface can be replaced with a Firewire port on the Eleven Rack to give a faster transfer speed.

The other idea I am contemplating is purchasing a 003R and having Black Lion do their thing, then using the Eleven Rack in conjunction with the 003R. I'm not looking for additional inputs as 18 is the limit from what I understand, but I want to know if would then be possible to have the Eleven Rack handle its own DSP.

Quite confused.

Thanks!

The Eleven Rack handles its own DSP in any configuration. I doubt there is any way to change the USB interface.

I would think it would be next to impossible to change from USB to FW. They are totally different protocols. As far as using the 11R and 003 together, it can be done but isn't as graceful as I had hoped it would be. Essentially if you wanna use both at the same time you would route the analog outputs from the 11R into 003. Kinda negating some of the recording features IMO. At least this is my understanding as to how it would have to work. I believe you would still have control over the 11R through USB but no audio would be passing through it.

11R handles its own DSP.

It supports all LE sample rates of 44, 48, 88, 96k.

Given the limited amount of tracks its passing down USB connection it should be fine.

FW400 isn't really any faster-its just that it doest require a babysitter.

And no you cant use a FW to USB converter of some type. Ultimately its as slow as the slowest or weakest interface spec.
