Default Protools 9 in box, I have Mac Lion, not installed yet, what do I do next?

I would appreciate specific steps to install Protools 9 in a MacBook Pro that came with Lion. I have heard that I should not install the box version first so that I can do a clean install with Protools 9.05 beta upgrade. How do I qualify for the upgrade? Do I somehow register the boxed version without installing it and go directly to Avid.com and download the upgrade? I have heard that it is much better to do a clean install instead of installing the boxed version.
