Default Piecemeal HD

Hi,

I'm using PT M-Powered 8 with an M-Audio Firewire 2626, and although I'm OK with the direct monitoring solution (for now), I'm constantly running out of processing power (and crashing all the time).

I'd love to purchase a turnkey HD system, but can't afford it.
I just read in the AVID Comparison Chart that PT 10 will work with all M-Audio interfaces, and it got me thinking;

Can I purchase an HD Core Card (to boost my processing power) and PT 10 (for greater stability), and use my existing M-Audio hardware until I can afford an AVID HD hardware interface?
I really just need extra processing power and a more stable version of PT at this time --- will this work?

Much thanks!!!

The HDX, HD TDM Core Card, or HD Native cards will only work with an HD or HD compatible interface. By HD compatible, I'm referring to 3rd party companies that have made their interfaces compatible with HD cards, for example, the Apogee Symphony IO, or the Lynx Aurora (with HD LT adapter).

If you have any of those HD cards installed, but no HD interface is hooked up, you will just be running Protools software 100% natively, through whatever interface you choose.

To be honest, if you're having computer power issues, it would be far cheaper to just get a newer, better computer. Modern computers can do a ton of processing, and this shouldn't be an issue.

Have to agree, Start with a new computer. Throwing thousands of dollars worth of hardware/software at a computer that can't handle the workload is not smart math(or money). I get lots of work done at my little commercial studio with a custom built PC,a DIGI003 and some nice outboard preamps, and the computer rarely chokes(when it does, its usually my own fault). Build an i7/X79 rig or buy an i7 Mac and upgrade to PT10(BTW, 10HD software will work with any interface, WITHOUT any HD hardware, and give you all the benefits of PT10 with the CPTK). Lots of horsepower and some updating may solve your problems

Exactly, I see a new computer in your future.
