Default Editing waveforms while recording.

Hi,

I record a lot of voiceovers for presentations.
The texts are typically 4-6 pages long.

If the actor makes an error I have instructed them to start again at the prior sentence, and I just keep the recording going.

I usually mark an error with a memory marker as we go, so I can quickly go back and edit the take after the recording session is over.
This works pretty well, but a lot of times I whish i could just mark the waveform overview and clear it right away ( without stopping the recording ).

Do you know if its possible to edit waveform overviews at the same time as one is recording?

Not currently no.

You could turn on Insertion Follows Playback, then press stop and record very quickly to begin creating a new file. As the talent moves on, you can hang back and edit the previous file that's now been saved. Just a thought.

yeah, that should work!

Only drawback would be the increased risk of messing up I guess...

I think I´ll try your method on my next recording!

You can edit what has already been recorded during a recording. I do this myself. You can't start editing the audio being recorded as it's coming in though.

Wouldn't he want Insertion Follows Playback turned on? Otherwise, he'd be overwriting the previous pass.

Yes! That's what I meant. Will change my post.

I would suggest recording shorter chunks. The longer the take the harder it is to find specific areas. I do a lot of VO for games, commercials and such. Games in particular have a great deal of dialogue, thousands of lines. Very different process but even for longer segments we will record line by line for the most part, each take being up to a few reads of a given line. For commercials or other video/film projects we do paragraphs at most. Even a full page would be a little too unruly.

I remember seeing a demo of Sonic Solutions in 1994 @ NAB - it allowed you to edit on the same track you were recording.
When is Avid going to catch up ? .....
They still can't get ADC down correct!

Put the Transport in Punch Record, hit "3" on the Number Keypad or "F12" to start recording. When there's a mistake, hit "3" or "F12" then hit either again. The record will stop, but the play head will keep moving on the first hit, then the record will start again on the second hit. Tell the talent to just give it a breath before starting the pickup. You'll have the recording in chunks and can go back while recording and start editing if you really want to, but Shuffle will/should be an issue as that would drag the clips and recording up on the Timeline.

Cheers,
