Default Partitioning and PTX

Hi,
Just partitioning my iMac 1 T HD and I have two external FW 800 drives( OWC Mercury elite pros), one for Session and one for VI/sample data.

I have already downloaded the current PTX 10.1.1 update but not installed.

I will keep OS Lion on the first volume, I will install PTX on the second volume (so this will be a clone as I currently have PTX installed in the first volume).

Questions.

Does the new update replace the previous PTX and can I install that in my new second volume ?

Should I just redownload all the PT, virtual instruments/samples and then install them on one of my external hard dives or copy them from my first volume ?

Thx advice appreciated !

Hi,

Just run the update, there's no changes to the VI library but by default they will want to load into the Avid, pro tools folder on your system drive! So if you have relocated them to an external drive, just check the default paths for the sounds hasn't reverted back to default.

To be honest the included VI library is so small I would leave it at its default position, except structure which you can have different library locations on anyway, that's if you gave a big structure library.

Hi Thx.

Understood. I also use Steven Slate Drums 4.0 so have put that on the VI drive. Its working fine after I changed the license and file path.

I thought the Vi drive might be overkill but decided to go for it obviously.

Hi Thx again,

installed , copied over to new volume (2) so just PTX is there and then deleted license sub solder from system file( volume 1) , booted PTX 10.1.1 and everything is working fine.

Took your suggestion and kept Avid VIs on the second volume.

Question.

Why are you partitioning your internal? There's a lot of important reasons not to, but only in rare situations is it good to do.
