Default Took a chance on an i5 Laptop

Does anyone have any experience with a Dell Inspiron 15? I don't need it to run PT, but man would it be nice. It has 4 gigs of 1066 Ram, but no firewire port. I think I will buy a card for Firewire (if I need it)

Here is the laptop.

The only mod I made was to go for an i5 instead of an i3. For $699 I think it's a steal, although I am hesitant to buy a Dell.

The link is not showing a computer at all. Skip the i3 for sure as its really the update of the Celeron. Can't comment on anything else there

make sure if you get a card for firewire that it is a TI chipset. Like ADS pyro or SIIG. Do not buy the Bestbuy ones (Dynex) They are not TI chipsets and do not work. It barely worked with my video camera let alone PT. My ADS pyro i got on amazon for 30 bucks i think and it works flawless.

Hey Kris the only potential pitfall I see is shared graphics memory. This may or may not have issues with PT.

Assuming there is a way of setting or limiting the amount of video RAM in BIOS it will probably be fine.

One way or another lets us know.

I'm sure it at least has a mini FireWire port. I have an inspiron 1420 and ran my boys mbox pro on it no problem with the mini fw. But I haven't used it on a daily basis to know how reliable it is. But it did work fine. Core 2 duo btw.

This is becoming less and less the case. I have 3 laptops, 2 dell and 1 gateway that do not have firewire ports, even the mini. My old HP that's 5 years old did have a mini firewire. I looked at best buy and most of them don't anymore.

I have found a SIIG express card to put in (if I need it) that will be ESATA. Why go with firewire when you can have the real deal.

I am fairly excited to see how it performs.

Just install REAPER on it and start making some music. You already wasted some valuable time trying to get PT to work on it. Sandra Report, DAE errors etc...or REAPER, then hit record.

That's how I was too. I just got lucky with mine that pt works pretty well with it. It's vista too. I think yours may be fine too since you got the intel quad. Pt works fine on my wifes xps1330 laptop too.
