Default What's wrong with the Smart Tool?

It's clear to me that many people are not using this tool.

Myself included.

I actually discipline myself to use it for a few weeks and then I find myself not using it again. I forget why.

We can all agree that if we use the Smart Tool, we'll be soo much quicker.

So why aren't we all using it?

I use it all the time. What makes you think people are not using it?

The PITA for me with the smart-tool is when that spawn of the devil, the evil MoFo !@#$%^&*!!! <insert devil smiley here> LOOP TRIMMER gets inadvertently selected. Since I NEVER EVER choose to use the loop trimmer I then have to key myself out of the smart-tool, cycle through the trimmers to the trimmer I want, then re-engage the smart-tool. Then, momentarily, I regain peace and harmony.

I pretty much use the smart tool exclusively, only needing to switch to the individual tools when zoomed way out and I don't have the resolution that I need. There's less of a chance of accidentally switching to the loop or TCE Trim tool when you are constantly changing tools.

Except switching for particular jobs (TCE etc.) I use only the smart tool, I am pretty much used to it from the beginning.

Occasionally I make crossfades by mistake, but for me undoing and moving on is much faster than switching tools all the time..

Yeah - the agony has finally subsided -

I even got really good with the F5 F6 F7 F8 switching tools.

Multi tool IS faster... I know - but this one was a HARD habit to break.

I now always leave multi tool on - am faster, more efficient, but when I'm not "Thinking" and just "Sub consciously "Motoring away", i still find myself smacking away on the F5 - F8 - switching tools, and have to consciously, Stop, put it back on Multi-Tool, and carry on.

I think it's cause we all spent our "Habit forming Learning years" without the Multi Tool, it's actually "Relatively new" in the grand scheme of things... was it 5.3.x ish introduced?

It's all I use. I couldn't function 10 -12 hours a day without it.

For me, there are still faster ways. I use a custom written script to give me mouse over editing. I simply hover the mouse over any region and hit 1 short cut key. No clicking, no right clicking, no click & dragging, no placing any edit cursor anywhere in a region, no selecting tools, no mousing all over the place wasting time, just one simple action. If there's any other way to go faster, I'm all ears to speed up workflow and editing.

I find the smart tool useless when performing micro edits at maximum zoom levels because the edges of the regions that are used to invoke the tools are off the screen.
