1. BETA. All too common.
2. DELL laptop. NOT a good PT host.
3. Disable wireless.
4. If you ever DO get it to load, it isn't going to work recording to a partition on your system drive. You need a separate dedicated drive for audio.

I have the same problem with my desktop PC, Windows 7, dedicated audio drive, 8 gig RAM. Does Pro Tools even work with Windows 7? I try to open the program and nothing happens, it isn't even in the task manager. WTF?

Thank you for your reply.

While I know this is a BETA release, I have a Toshiba M750 and a Dell Latitude 6400 both running Windows 7 with a single hard drive and they both have no issues with 8.0.3 and recording using our 003, MBox 2, MBox Mini or Micros.

The only real difference between my other laptops and this new work laptop, is that it is a fresh install of Windows 7 and Pro Tools 8.0.3.

Considering that PT is not even loading after the initial install, this points to a software issue and nothing to do with the hardware configuration.

Unfortunately, there are many hardware configurations that will make this software not boot up...or even install for that matter.

"Does Pro Tools even work with Windows 7?"

FIGHTS have been started over that topic......
BTW, napsternova, you really should start your own thread.

Mbox 2, or Mbox 2 Pro?

IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic, so please do not use them with Pro Tools. If you're recording or playing back from a USB drive and are getting errors in Pro Tools, please switch to using a compatible external firewire drive or internal SATA/ATA/IDE drive and disconnect the USB drive.

Pro Tools supports recording and playback to a secondary drive that meets the following requirements:

7200 rpm or faster
9ms seek time or faster

And Yes, PT works great with Windows 7. Been using Win 7 since the day it was released. Both 32 and 64 bit.

Hi everyone,

Have finally discovered what this issue was. As our work machines use roaming profiles by default, ProTools wouldn't start due to this server confirguration. As soon as we started using a local profile it worked fine.
