Well exactly. The whole POINT of the Core Audio driver is to use your $15,000 hardware system without the ProTools software. I mean, that was the only reason it was designed. My 96 I/O is hard connected to my JBL 4300 speaker system. There is no mixer in the chain that I can easily patch in my Mac output. And I don't want to have to boot ProTools to hear the Mac output.

I want, for instance, to run Final Cut Pro, and I want the audio coming out my $15,000 'audio routing matrix that is ProToold HD3' and Digi told me I can do it, and even gave me the tools to do so. It's called the Core Audio Driver.

Problem is, it just never worked! Like Structure. And Region Grouping. And HUI protocal. And....

sigh

Call me crazy, but I think that the appropriate response should be a bit stronger than 'sigh'.

Has anyone out there explored more formal remedies, if you know what I mean? 15 or 20 grand is not chump change. It might be small money to 'Avid', but not to me, and probably not to you either.

Again, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that our systems work.

Odd but it works (the way it should).

Ok. My test system is not HD but what I found is worth mentioning.

I have a test Macbook pro DVD-FW 400 800.
MBox2 USB.
OS 10.6.3, PT's LE 8.0.3cs2
In system pref>sound I can choose MBox USB (Non-core audio) or digi core audio.(I never had 2 choices before)
Well I chose the Mbox USB.

I now can have Pro Tools running and get Toast, iTunes or what ever also coming out the Mbox USB interface. Finally but this seems to be a fluke.
(I have 6 LE and 2 HD but this is the only one I could do this with.)

I tried this on another system running the same software versions but this one is a 002 and i7 iMac. No go for this system.

Anyone else with MBox USB get this to work.
I also have a HD system waiting for a Magma-chassis although from this thread I imagien it also won't work like the Macbook Pro via USB.

I'm going to keep posting daily hoping to get 'Avid' to respond.

OK, I give up. I realized this weekend that I may as well admit that I'm beat. I'm stuck with Pro Tools for the near future. I'll have to wait for a competing product to mature before I can realistically move platforms.

I'd like to say, however, that if 'Avid' thinks it has a winning strategy: cutting costs, ignoring customers, stopping development and troubleshooting, I think they've lost their corporate marbles.

Over and out.
