Post Delay When Record/Play Button Pressed

Hey there. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am running Pro Tools LE 6.4 on Windows XP. I record through the original Mbox. I have a Intel Core2 Duo CPU, E8400 @ 3.00 GHz, and 3.25 GB RAM.

The problem I am having is whenever I press the record button and then press the play button (to start recording), there is a 15-20 second freeze in the program. Once it starts recording, there are no problems. Also, when I go to playback what I recorded, there are no problems. It is only when I actually start to record.

15-20 seconds may not seem like a lot, but it adds up over time. With how much I mess up in recording, it REALLY adds up.

I used to run this setup on my old computer which is 7 years older and much slower than the one I have now and I did not have a problem. Is there something I can change in my settings to get rid of this delay? The program runs smooth in every other way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One quick thing to check before we get into the technical side of things;

Make sure you do not have a countoff enabled.

Then you might want to see if this applies to you.

make sure your 'record allocation' in prefs is NOT set to use all available space (or whatever the verbage is). set it to 10-15 mins max unless you are doin' live performance/gig type performances or where it requires more actual time allocation.

I read through this thread earlier actually. The problem they were having is not quite the same as mine. Thanks though!

This problem happens with only ProTools open on a brand new file with no effects. Thanks!

You rock. This worked perfectly. There is now only about a second of delay. Thank you so much for your help!

As a side note the infamous play/pause issue started back in 6.4.
