Definately a lapdog, Casper.

Why, do you have a Vista compatible PT or a way run it? My XP PT is basically down. The CPU can't even handle playback anymore.
I don't have one, but the beta-testers do.

Doubtful that changing your OS to Vista is going to handle your specific issues that you have been asking help for. Did you get your monitoring problems solved?

I understand that everyone is starting to use Vista because it is released on the newer computers, but really, to be mad at Digidesign for not immediately coming out with a PTLE version that is supported on Vista? MS hasn't even released the first service pack for Vista yet. I guess it's just the nature of the beast when having to deal with new technology. I personally won't get Vista until they release one or two service packs. I really don't feel like beta testing during a session. My philosophy is to stick with it till it breaks and you are forced to upgrade to a new OS. When mine breaks will someone please send me their MAC?

Vista, even in the 32bit version is absouletly amazing. It has a whole new video and audio kernel rewrite that makes this OS exactly like OS X as far as audio fidelity. While true I cannot use PT as of yet, my Nuendo, SSL Duende and my UAD plugs work great. This is the first Windows OS that is a tolal rewrite and not a glossed over update of a previous OS. All of my audio files including mp3's sound more open than I have ever heard on a Windows based system. Vista can play audio files up to 24bit 192khz. (XP 24bit 48khz) I won't even look back to XP now that I have switched. I can wait for the PT upgrade, if I even get it then. Well maybe just for the drivers so I can use my 002r rig, once I get the Black Lion Mod.

Sorry, the Longhorn kernal(the rewrite) didnt make it into Vista. It's the Windows Server 2003 SP1 kernal with the "glossed over update".

Let me guess, Vista also sounds "warmer" compared to XP.

This depends on the Codec you have. I can playback 32bit/192k files in XP no problem. But, they probably dont sound as "open" and warm compared to Vista.

Gotta love posts like this.

Excuse Me?

But you are wong about that one.
It was an original kernal(Longhorn both 32 and 64 bit) till build 4074 then it was switched to the Windows 2003 server kernal and given the glossed over and fisherprice look.

Anyways,

Matt

I think the AERO interface sounds more transparent than XP's 2D GUI

It may not, but my new computer has Vista and with much better components, I could load PT on it whenever they come out with one that works on Vista.

Personally summer is almost over when school is about to start. What gives folks? I respectfully ask for the Vista Version of PTLE as promised by the company. Nothing more and nothing less but a simple explanation on its current status is reasonable don't you think?

I guess you haven't heard the latest "bad" news. They're going to miss the summer promise for a Vista version of protools and it is now looking like winter. Here is a quote of the announcement:

While Digidesign originally anticipated bringing the entire Pro Tools® product line to Microsoft’s new Windows Vista operating system during the summer of 2007, delays in software development have occurred. We now expect to release Vista-compatible versions of Pro Tools LE® and Pro Tools M-Powered™ in winter 2007/2008.

Because Pro Tools software will not function with Windows Vista at this time, please wait to upgrade your operating system if you’re using Pro Tools on Windows. Stay tuned – all the power of Pro Tools paired with the benefits of Windows Vista is coming soon.
