Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs
Finally got my new build completed, installed XP Pro and 7.4, excited to see how many D-Verbs until I got serious hardware buffer problems during playback. I'm stumped.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (Revision -E0) Heatsink: XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P Video Card: GeForce 7300 SE Memory: 2 X 2GB Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 Hard Drive: 2x Seagate 750GB SATA2 Case: Antec Nine Hundred |

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs
380 Dverbs (davec 2.0)
Intel i7 920 Asus P6t Deluxe 6 gb OCZ Platinum ram (XP only sees 3) Seagate 500gb 32mb cache SATA 7200rpm Audio Hitachi Deskstar 120gb 7200 IDE OS Diamond Radeon HD 3650 video card MBOX 2 The CPU had reached about 70% but the Hard Drives are what caused PT to stop. I'm Happy...I bet in the right hands it could go farther. |

Can you post us a regular Dverb stat on it's own? You'll get way more than 380. The Quad Dverb Test (From the original Quadzilla page) Set your Open-Ended Record Allocation Limit to 10 minutes in Preferences under the Operation tab and also uncheck Session File Auto Backup prior to starting. Make sure that RTAS Engine Ignore Errors During Playback/Record box is unchecked in your Playback Engine. Start the computer. Create a brand new 24bit/48k Session on your audio drive for the Dverb test. Open up the system usage window in PT. Create 32 tracks. Go to your buffer setting and select 64 and then 1024(CPU usage must be 95%). Since all your tracks are still selected, hold ALT(option) and click on the record button on one of the tracks, all 32 tracks will now be in record arm mode. Hold ALT(option) and insert the Dverb on the first insert. This will create 32 Dverbs all the way across. Repeat with the next insert. You want to be able to record with as many Dverbs as you can before your computer doesnt do it anymore for 5 minutes. Keep in mind that playback only will give you a few more Dverbs than record mode. If you can make it past the 32 or 48 mono tracks, then start adding mono Aux tracks. This is a quick benchmark stress test that can be done in a few minutes. If you can do one test with a buffer of 1024 and then a separate one with a buffer of 64 that would help myself and Sunburst greatly. Thanks! Oh...and you're on 7.4 I presume?...or 7.3? Shane

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs
Once we get some more confirmation on these, we might have to declare the i7 quads with a new name.
The HDK Quadzilla I'm sure a few can sort out what "HDK" means. Shane

Is this the first PT system to ever break 400? (stock speed )

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs
A quick 101 refresh:
1 HD Accel Card will do 38 Dverbs. 1 HD Core card will do 28 Dverbs. A full blown HD 7 will benchmark 256 Dverbs. HD 3 will benchmark 104 dverbs. HD will always have the low latency with the hardware no matter what the H/W buffer is at. So, once we start seeing our results at a buffer of 64 with the LE firewire I/O interfaces(002, 003 etc) things will get interesting. There is one other factor we'll need to test that me and Sunburst will announce soon. It's way past time we see a real Pro Tools Native system with more I/O and without these artificial limits. Time to wake up and smell the roses. Shane
