Default **STILL** Bad record/playback bug in 6.1???

I don't know if any of you have seen this before and may have some remedy...but I upgraded to 6.1 last week, did my first session with some clients this weekend, and had this problem. Probably 4 times out of 10, when I would hit F12 or "record-play" on the transport window, the cursor would back up the allotted 5 seconds of preroll, then just stop. No record. No playback. No nothing.

I would then have to again place the cursor where I needed to record and hit F12 again and hope for better results. This wasn't a big deal when we were doing initial tracking, but gets unbelievably annoying when cutting bits of vocal takes and having to replace the cursor and re-tell the computer to record almost half the times I need it to record.

Has anyone seen this before or have an idea of what could be done to stop it? I really need some help here.

What setting do youi have in your prefs for "Open Ended Record Allocation"? Try 10 minutes and see if it helps.

Hello,

-Open the Setups Menu go to Preferences > Operations tab and limit the “Open Ended Record Allocation” to 10 minutes.

I have similar probs. I have to hit 'play' or 'record' 2 or 3 times before it will start. When I observe the transport the 'stop' button very quickly turns blue before the 'play' button. But it does this randomly. The lower the buffer setting the more often the prob occurs. Seen this on 3 different systems. Turning off page filing and increasing the buffer size will help but I didnt need to do this in 5.3. I have an earlier post regarding this called 'playback problem' somewhere.

right click 'my computer'-properties-advanced-performance-settings-advanced-virtual memory-change-select 'no paging file' then 'set' for both drives. This in combination with increasing the buffer size has solved it for me but what a pain.

Pedrohead,
I have a feeling this is NOT your problem, but I thought I would throw it out just in case: here is a bug I've found that involves F12. If you click in one of the preroll or postroll time sections in the transport window and change the setting and then hit enter (to 'set' it), you can't use F12. As a matter of fact, if you just click in one of those sections and then try and use F12, it won't work. To make it work you have to click somewhere in the timeline on the main window (so that focus shifts to the main window).
Anyway, if this is not your problem, just add it to the bug list (I know this did not happen in 5.3.1).

Actually, I have noticed that, too. But I have this problem even when I use the transport bar. I've tried the fixes that DIGI and the other kind gentleman suggested, but it just lessens the occurances, not eliminates it.
