Default Backup Backup Backup

Just another reminder for thoses that don't do it regularly...do it.

The power supply went on my quad the other night (one of the first intel quads...built in May '07)

It fried all 4 of my hard drives !! The only useable parts left are my cpu and dvd drive. It really sucks...I back up in 4 places, 2 of them are gone.

Lucky for thumb drives, usb drives, and acronis !

Well, I guess it's over to the i7 sticky to start picking parts

Another extremely valuable tool in this type of scenario is Steve Gibson's Spinrite. This one needs to be in the utility toolbox.

Wow thats pretty tragic! Hopefully you have all the important stuff take the Quad and stick it in a new board and put Windows Home Server on it. It's no replacement for cloned drives and images but its a good all around backup option.

Which PSU?

Yeah, I wasn't planning to buy a new rig till next fall but I'm kind of forced to now as I'm in the middle of a project. Only had 2 more songs to tweak for a final mix...was planning to finish tomorrow.

Should be able to get the i7920 at a good price as the new chips just came out.

Power supply was the 450w that came with the Antec Sonata II

I would put a 620 or so in the 17 or larger. That RAID5 array in my desktop took a big ol husky dump on me. Since none of the common cloning programs will let you clone a RAID5 array I had to reinstall. The good news is that the old system is still backed up and browsable on the WHS box so I didn't lose zip.

The 920 is 179.00 here....wink
