I think you are a wise man to choose stability over benchmark scores, 19 days overclocked by a significant margin is indeed very stable by any definition. If the day come when we need that kinda power its nice to know its there.
Yes it sure is! Hope u got your 002 back? I have been away a lot so I am not updated with all that happanes here.

Yes it took 3 try's but the 3rd units a charm, I got on my last day of vacation and have been on the road ever since, LOL!

As far as the FW problem went apparently something in the FW controller on the board got fried when 002 number got fried. I'm going to RMA the board this weekend and hopefully next weekend will build my Quad for the last time

Because I do want to get back to making music, not benchmarks or diagnoses.....

As cool as these Quads are truthfully the whole idea is that the computer (and worrying about the computer) fades completely from the creative process.

I decided to wrap Halion Player and insert it on the track. It actually works fine with the weird exception that when the plug comes up on screen, the window is blank. When you start clicking on the screen the elements show up and I can still load the samples, select the menus etc.....I just have to click around a bit. This happened on my old computer as well so it's not specific to this Mobo/CPU combination. I think fxpansion wrapper just does something funky to it. It's working better and is easier to use than Rewire though. No CPU issues with it.

By the way....I tried to OC to 333 on the FSB and couldn't get it to boot unless I set the memory frequency to 800Mhz. (I used all of the specific BIOS settings posted). I ended up changing to FSB 300...a muliplier of 9...and a DDR mem frequency of 1000 Mhz. It is the quickest combination I found that seems to act stable. I changed the core voltage to 1.325 and my temps are actually only about 2 degrees C warmer than stock. I have a session going with 8 major instrument plugs and some heavy samples for SCARBEE on the EP and It's running about 15% on the meter and running cool. Used it all night last night and no issues. I'm thrilled.

If I recall correctly your using DDR2 1066? You would probably follow most of Vocal VooDoos instructions but set the timing to 5-5-5-15, I'm guessing 4-4-4-12 is just too tight at the higher memory speeds.

That is true Sunburst. I don't think any 1066 ram is speced under 5-5-5 timings.

As for my new Thermalright heat sink, Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, I have a nice drop in temps vs. the Skythe Ninja Plus REV. B. I'll post comparisons later.

My last attempt was at 5-5-5-12. I'll bring it up some more and try it at 333 FSB again.

I would start at 5-5-5-15 and see if it will boot. Then tighten up the timings.

I'm very interested in that heatsink and curious, Did you have to bend the mounting plate? That was mentioned in the Anandtech article and I assume that if you do need to bend it that once it is firmly screwed down that any kink has been worked out out of the mount.

Hi guyes!

This thread still rocks!

After 19 days at 3 GHz (Q6600) I now decided to go back to 2,4 GHz. I am never close to run out of CPU performance, so why torture it.. But it has worked perfect as nothing has happened. The day I run into a project that needs more power I just push it to 3 again, or even more. Just sharing my experience.

God bless you all!
Cool. Keep us posted on your long term stability with your rig, including the type of productions you are doing. Midi based, full bands, ADR, VO, loops, mixing workflows etc will all be approached differently in PT. If anything comes up, let us know.

The only thing that should be a problem are the known PT bugs and unstable plug-ins.

Glad you have worked out now. Using the VST version of some of these plug-ins is the solution I find in some cases such as my Native Intrument stuff.

The blank screen is usually a plug-in issue itself. But, I would still email Angus at Fxpansion and let him know. Also, make sure your graphics card is running in 32bit mode and not 16bit mode.
