They should release a mid-level system
I think that LE is their mid-level system now. HD - LE - M-Powered.

@ Shan

Could you explain the use of Live with protools a little better? I really don't get what is the benefit of its use.
More tracks in PT LE is the benifit. You are basically using the audio tracks in LIVE to stream thru aux tracks in PT LE via ReWire. Up to 16.(Or 64 if you really need it as noted below)

Think of it as extra audio tracks but used on your aux tracks in PT LE. Live will lock to the Pro Tools' tempo and transport with sample accurate synchronization.

If I have some extra time I will post a step by step 'how to guide' with a session template for LIVE and PT LE. Give me a few days.

Shan!
Found out you can actually use up to 64 rewirechannels with Live. That would make a 96 channel PTsession, if the machine holds it.

read all about it

Now THAT I didnt know. How did I ever miss that one? Which version? I'll check it out and report back. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Looks like we have to get into the Options.txt file to make the changes. Now that's geeking out or what.

By the way, we have workarounds for some of the most common things requested. A few extra steps but not a big deal. So why Digi doesnt implement some of these things when there is always a workaround is beyond me.

Just a few examples off the top of my head that we have workarounds for:

- More tracks.

- Beat Detective on more than 2 tracks at a time.

- An 'instrument' track that will host your RTAS synth with the ability to print audio to the same track it is on.

- Midi Drum Grid.

- Even PDC workaround solutions for various problems.

And check out the new "LE" version of Cubase SE3.

Everything we bitch and whine for like 48 tracks, full PDC etc

...

Shane
So the question is: will we have 33 (or more...) tracks in LE before or after CubaseSE3 gets his surround feature ???

After. Way after. And surround will be an extra add on that will cost you $1000.00 like the DV ToolKit

JMHO.
NO-ONE has ever called my studio and asked if I had Cubase-SONAR or Soundforge.
The #1 question is "Do you have PRO-TOOLS?"

I run a small studio and do not do major releases or major bands so PTLE/Digi oo2r fits the bill.
Record about 2 to 3 bands a month (was using a Roland VS for the past 5 years) From my clients and my standpoint PTLE is just fine ...untill I can afford the big ol HD rig

Like I said JMHO

why the hell would you need 96tracks, you would need a HD rig to cope with the processing. but more to the point what could possibly take up that many tracks, rethink what you are tracking

In theory, yes... but current computers cannot handle that kind of DSP requirements. Then again, bless Intel for Dual Core! And to add to the joy, PT7 supports Dual Core! I cannot wait for October 7... darn... why isn't there a fast forward button to spin the earth a little faster? ;D

I wanna try the Ableton live workaround to get more tracks but I have a question. When I mix I use a very high buffer size, how does that work with rewire? do you have to adjust the buffer size in Ableton live or you don't have to?
