I want to import the 24 wav tracks into my PT HD session and edit, mix etc.
Now that the Complete Production Toolkit is double the voicing and tracks over HD 1 and on par with HD 3 at 96k resolutions, I'm hoping they'll beef up the physical I/O at some point soon to 48.

Until then, there are a few very inexpensive workarounds as you mentioned. On PC I'd recommend REAPER to track if you need to break the 18 I/O limit and then bring your stuff back into PT. My REAPER DAW is skinned to look like PT and I created my REAPER keyboard shortcuts to match PT so I can work between both apps very quickly. There's nothing wrong with using more than one tool to get the job done.

We have a few very inexpensive workarounds, but these workarounds are unnecessary in this modern age. We can invest in workarounds, or we can invest in new Digi I/O hardware if it was avaliable. Either way, someone gets our money, and at this point, it's not Digidesign unfortunately. I want my 003 Lightbridge 48 with smux and BNC in a 1U rack. It's way past time we get this.

When you can't beat them join the other.

Being a recording studio & engineer since 1972, using ProTools since 1992, I think ( version 2.5, I still have the floppy ) came all the way to HD2 with a rack mounted full with interfaces etc (32 inputs). It became problematic to stow all this stuff + mics/stands/cabels etc. in the back of my car to do a location job.

Got me a 2626, after reading a great review in Resolution, in april 2008 or so. Also a MacBookPro with ProTools MP. Stupid as I am, I never realised PTMP never goes over 18 simultanious inputs. I do need this sometimes, recording a bigger band or even an orchestra may need more inputs ( mic-ing the hall in surround is at least 4 inputs ).
I'm getting to old to carry my HD set. ( I do this alone ) So this small PT-MP set ( I use 2x RME octa's on the 2626-adat inputs ), was the solution, I thought. But alas, life isn't easy.

When PT 8 cannot accept 24 inputs, I have to buy Logic 8. Sorry to say, PT HD never let me down.

All the best, stay in tune.

PT MP-2626- MacBookPro dual 2.4 - 4gb(coming up) - 10.5.5
FCP studio2.
Even though I have two hd3 rigs, I use DP 5.13 for live venue gigs. I use a motu 828mk3 as an interface, plus three Presonus D8 units for mic preamps (each has 8). Two come in thru lightpipe, and the third thru the 828's analog inputs. 24 channels, no problem. Oh yes, I use a Macbook Pro, with a firewire drive hanging off of an Express34 card. This is a VERY good sounding rig, and it has never gone down on me. Now if Digi had something to offer me I would probably use PT full time, but they don't, and that's the point, isn't it?

Theres ALOT of valid points here, In reguards to the speculation on what the REAL reason of us being stuck with 18 I/O ...Who knows what the real reason is?

Funny, when a decent size group of people start raising a bunch of valid points that digi just stop's responding. Not much you can say to this thread huh digi? I wouldnt respond anymore either.

I also noticed that digi never posted a single comment in the lightbridge thread about having all 32 I/O in 7.3.

No matter what improvements this company makes in software, It's not going to stop loyal customers from hammering you on the subject of cheating us out of what we paid for by imposing hardware limitations.

I hope this thread goes on forever.

Nice thread.....I too am a profire user who has recently turned to logic for tracking lager shows etc.

This isn't a complete work around for me though as I want to move to a mixing desk workflow kind of arrangement which will require more than 18 measley outputs. I don't want 100's of outputs.....maybe 24 or 32 would do me fine. And I don't care if I have to pay a couple of hundred dollars to get them either.....

I just don't want to fork out 10K or more for a HD system that I can't move around with me.
