Ableton Live and PT12 ReWire
Hi,
I'm trying to ReWire Ableton Live 9.7 with PT12 native. I don't see any ReWire plugin available in Protools beside Waves rewire. I'm aware that Pro tools need to rescan all the plugins in order to find freshly installed ReWire Plug ins. I did it by thrashing all prefs with PT pref, but still no ReWire plug in for Ableton Live.... If anyone could help me out! Thank you!! Pierre. |

Re: Ableton Live and PT12 ReWire
are you running the Live 64 bit version? Since PT 12 is a 64-bit app, anything it Rewires to must be also.
EDIT: well, shucks, spoke too soon. I just checked, and I've lost the ability to Rewire also. I've tried with both 64 & 32 bit versions of Live 9.7, with PT 12.5.2. Gonna restore my previous Live from backup and see what that does. EDIT 2: my old Ableton (9.6.2) was 32-bit, so it couldn't Rewire to PT 12 either. BUT: it says, when starting up, "Rewire engine installed." I don't see that message on 9.7. So maybe Rewire isn't installing right in 9.7. Anyway, basically I have nothing to add except for "company" in the "misery loves company" vein. Maybe check the Ableton forums and see if folks are having success with other Rewire hosts. ~peter in oakland

Re: Ableton Live and PT12 ReWire
I don't have a direct solution I can advise, but you might be able to find a solution in these two older threads:

Re: Ableton Live and PT12 ReWire
Hi guys,
Thank you for those kind answers. I do run a 64 bit version of Live 9.7. It might not be the problem. As far as I'm feeling, i'm not sure Live did install the rewire ressources in the first place. I was wondering if those could be installed directly from propellerheads website, so I did their Rewire update, unsuccessfully. I already dug in those 2 topics. The problem is that the Ableton's Rewire plug in don't even show up in PT12.. I did the pref thrash trick in order for PT to rescan all the plugins, still no rewire. I'll try to investigate on those ableton's forums. Thank you very much! Cheers. Pierre |

Re: Ableton Live and PT12 ReWire
Hi!
I had the same problem, this is how I solved it Am on Mac Osx Yosemite,Go to Mac HD>Library>App Support>Propelerhead Software>Rewire Select the Rewire folder press Command+i that will open the info window,at the bottom you will see that you have a window called sharing and permits?(in Spanish compartir y permisos) make sure your user name has the permits set to reading and writing. Open PT then open Live, open an audio or instrument track in PT and the rewire window should be there the same way as it was a plugin, set the outputs to L+R and you should get sound. In the case of a drum set, lets say from a drum rack, you should open a track with a drum rack for each of the sounds(kick, snare;HHats etc)the outputs of those tracks have to be set each one to his own always starting at channel 3 as channel 1/2 is your stereo master(Kick Ch 1,Snare CH2 etc etc) Back in protools you should open an Instrument track and an audio track for each of the sounds, the instrument track is the one with the Live plugin, then bus that Instrument track to his audio track, like that for each of the sounds.... The only problem i ve encounter with this system is that some how certain sounds charged on the drum rack in Live seam to come out sounding different, still don´t know why I hope it helps, english is not my native language so I hope you understood the steps I took |
