Default Intel anounces 970 Hexacores

Intel anounces a slower version of of the 980X. The price is still crazy but its a step in the right direction. Read about it here.

intel better be creative. i have a feeling amd is getting ready to hammer the market and everything they have will be riding on their 6 core chips with lower prices. we all know amd's history and how good they been to us. i would have no issue going back to them....

Maybe by the fourth quarter we will see a cost effective upgrade from the current i7 Quad.

I know, I love the thought of all that new power, but what would I do with it? I can't use it all now.

Actually the AMD 6 Cores cores are cheap. 300.00. But from what I understand the performance matches. Unless you trying to save money on Oracle licenses theres probably not much reason to switch. The way PT threads though a pair of 300.00 chips and 400.00 mobo might not be all that bad.

12 cores for a grand or a dual Xeon bord with 24 cores Decisions, decisions.

From what I know about Intel, they have their marketing strategy ready for competition.
We will see a price drop on 6-core and quad i7s, and a few new-lower priced models for both.
Motherboard prices are also too high at the moment, so I expect some price cuts on that front.
The price for 970 in that link you posted seems unlikely to me. Its as high as 980X

Too bad AMD is taking their time. I'd love to see some good old price war.

Great stuff to see. Haven't seen any CPU war action in awhile. This is a good thing for us native users.

But you don't have PT9 yet. Avid will show those hexacores whose boss, have em running like a 386.
