Default Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO DO?!

After days of searching the DUC, I can;t figure it out. Have a Fujitsu laptop that worked with my Mbox rig for months, great by the way. now, it wont even start a new session or playback old sessions. I downloaded all the updates for ver.6.4, then took it all off because it still didn;t work, tried to go back to what I started with because that worked. but still no luck.

When I try to star a new session, I keep getting the "Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library error saying C:\Programfiles\digidesign\protools\protools.exe, this application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way, please contact the applications support team." then often another error appears, "D:\projects\Rewire\rewiredll\portable\rewire.cpp< 994):verify Failure" what that means I have no idea. I looked on my D drive and there was no Projects folder. HELP!!?

I started getting that error recently. My problems aren't as extensive, though. At seemingly random times, several work hours apart (so far), Pro Tools abruptly quits, and the same message about Rewire on the D: drive is shown. Since I wasn't using nor attempting to use Rewire at the time, I assume that the message has no relevance whatsoever to the problem. It started after I installed PTLE 7. I never saw it under previous versions going back to 6.7.

Uninstall Pro Tools and all your plug-ins. Reboot. Make sure the file dalwdm.sys is no longer on your system. Reinstall Pro Tools -- make sure it functions. Ensure that you have the latest version of all plug-ins and they're compatible with Pro Tools version 7.0 and reinstall them.

OK, but Dalwdm.sys should be there again after the reinstall, right? I think it solved my problem. At least, I found a way to reliably produce it, and it doesn't do it now in that situation after following your instructions. If it doesn't do it in the next two days, it's fixed. Thanks!

Yes it should -- but it's important that the version match the same version of Pro Tools you have installed. Usually a mismatch can occur when the standalone ASIO or WaveDriver are installed which aren't compatible with the installed version of Pro Tools.

You should be all good now.

Default Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO DO?!

I had this exact problem last week. (C + + runtime error sometimes, rewire error sometimes)

After ...

reinstalling PT's (repair, uninstall, yadda yadda) - no change
Tossing rewire file in the trash - no change
Reformatting the os drive and reinstalling e v e r y thing!! - no change
And a bunch of other stuff ...

Eventually found an old duc thread saying toss the "Digidesign Databases" folder (and contents) on EVERY drive in the trash. When PT's boots, it'll create new ones (which it did). PTs's been runnning fine since (for me). Not everyone said it worked for them, but it can't hurt tryin'.

Shouldn't matter but ... I'm PT 6.4 001.

I remember having to do something similar to this periodically on a PTIII mac version 7 or 8 years ago. The preferences file would get corrupt and you'd just toss it and be on your merry way. Aren't computers wonderful (love/hate relationship ... Hmmmm ... sounds familiar somehow ....)

Just an FYI, my problem started when I HOT swapped two monitor cables on my Matrox P750 card. I used to do this regularly with my ATI card, seems the new P750 ain't gonna play nice, like the ATI did.

Hope this helps (and saves you alot of re____ time!!

Good luck,

Ter
