Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO DO?!
After days of searching the DUC, I can;t figure it out. Have a Fujitsu laptop that worked with my Mbox rig for months, great by the way. now, it wont even start a new session or playback old sessions. I downloaded all the updates for ver.6.4, then took it all off because it still didn;t work, tried to go back to what I started with because that worked. but still no luck.
When I try to star a new session, I keep getting the "Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library error saying C:\Programfiles\digidesign\protools\protools.exe, this application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way, please contact the applications support team." then often another error appears, "D:\projects\Rewire\rewiredll\portable\rewire.cpp< 994):verify Failure" what that means I have no idea. I looked on my D drive and there was no Projects folder. HELP!!? heres my profile: SiSoftware Sandra System Host Name : JASONSLAPTOP User : pro tools Domain : MSHOME Processor Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.60GHz Speed : 1.60GHz Performance Rating : PR1755 (estimated) Cores per Processor : 1 Unit(s) Threads per Core : 1 Unit(s) Type : Mobile Internal Data Cache : 8kB Synchronous, Write-Thru, 4-way set, 64 byte line size L2 On-board Cache : 512kB ECC Synchronous, ATC, 8-way set, 64 byte line size, 2 lines per sector Mainboard Bus(es) : AGP PCI PCMCIA CardBus USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBus MP Support : No MP APIC : No System BIOS : Phoenix/FUJITSU Version 1.03 System : FUJITSU FPC03054AK Mainboard : FUJITSU FJNB156 Total Memory : 511MB DDR-SDRAM Chipset 1 Model : Fujitsu Ltd 82845MZ Brookdale Mobile Host-Hub Interface Bridge (B1-step) Front Side Bus Speed : 4x 100MHz (400MHz data rate) Total Memory : 512MB DDR-SDRAM Memory Bus Speed : 2x 100MHz (200MHz data rate) Video System Monitor/Panel : Default Monitor Monitor/Panel : Default Monitor Monitor/Panel : Default Monitor Adapter : ATI Mobility M6 Physical Storage Devices Removable Drive : Floppy disk drive Hard Disk : HITACHI_DK23DA-20 (19GB) Hard Disk : Macpower OXFORD IDE Device 1 IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device CD-ROM/DVD : TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2212 (CD 24X Rd, 16X Wr) (DVD 3X Rd) Logical Storage Devices 1.44MB 3.5" (A:) : N/A Hard Disk (C:) : 12GB (2.4GB, 21% Free Space) (NTFS) Dise_backup (D:) : 6.9GB (2.2GB, 32% Free Space) (FAT32) CD-ROM/DVD (E:) : N/A Hard Disk (G:) : 75GB (70GB, 94% Free Space) (FAT32) Hard Disk (H:) : 75GB (73GB, 98% Free Space) (FAT32) Peripherals Serial/Parallel Port(s) : 1 COM / 1 LPT USB Controller/Hub : Intel(R) 82801CA/CAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2482 USB Controller/Hub : Intel(R) 82801CA/CAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2484 USB Controller/Hub : USB Root Hub USB Controller/Hub : USB Root Hub USB Controller/Hub : Generic USB Hub FireWire/1394 Controller/Hub : Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller PCMCIA/CardBus Controller : Texas Instruments PCI-1520 CardBus Controller PCMCIA/CardBus Controller : Texas Instruments PCI-1520 CardBus Controller Infrared Device : SMC IrCC - Fast Infrared Port Keyboard : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard Mouse : Alps Pointing-device Mouse : HID-compliant mouse Human Interface : USB Human Interface Device MultiMedia Device(s) Device : Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - SigmaTel Codec Communication Device(s) Device : Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR Printers and Faxes Model : hp psc 2170 series Model : Fax Power Management AC Line Status : On-Line Battery No 1 : 95% Operating System(s) Windows System : Microsoft Windows XP/2002 Home (Win32 x86) 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 2) Network Services Adapter : Realtek RTL8139/810X Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC Adapter : Intersil PRISM Wireless LAN 802.11b/g Adapter #2 Performance Tips Tip 2546 : Large memory modules should be ECC/Parity. Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO
I started getting that error recently. My problems aren't as extensive, though. At seemingly random times, several work hours apart (so far), Pro Tools abruptly quits, and the same message about Rewire on the D: drive is shown. Since I wasn't using nor attempting to use Rewire at the time, I assume that the message has no relevance whatsoever to the problem. It started after I installed PTLE 7. I never saw it under previous versions going back to 6.7.

Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO
Uninstall Pro Tools and all your plug-ins. Reboot. Make sure the file dalwdm.sys is no longer on your system. Reinstall Pro Tools -- make sure it functions. Ensure that you have the latest version of all plug-ins and they're compatible with Pro Tools version 7.0 and reinstall them.

Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO
OK, but Dalwdm.sys should be there again after the reinstall, right? I think it solved my problem. At least, I found a way to reliably produce it, and it doesn't do it now in that situation after following your instructions. If it doesn't do it in the next two days, it's fixed. Thanks!

Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO
Yes it should -- but it's important that the version match the same version of Pro Tools you have installed. Usually a mismatch can occur when the standalone ASIO or WaveDriver are installed which aren't compatible with the installed version of Pro Tools.
You should be all good now. Rail

Re: Visual C++ Problems, also 994 errors, WHAT TO DO?!
I had this exact problem last week. (C + + runtime error sometimes, rewire error sometimes)
After ... reinstalling PT's (repair, uninstall, yadda yadda) - no change Tossing rewire file in the trash - no change Reformatting the os drive and reinstalling e v e r y thing!! - no change And a bunch of other stuff ... Eventually found an old duc thread saying toss the "Digidesign Databases" folder (and contents) on EVERY drive in the trash. When PT's boots, it'll create new ones (which it did). PTs's been runnning fine since (for me). Not everyone said it worked for them, but it can't hurt tryin'. Shouldn't matter but ... I'm PT 6.4 001. I remember having to do something similar to this periodically on a PTIII mac version 7 or 8 years ago. The preferences file would get corrupt and you'd just toss it and be on your merry way. Aren't computers wonderful (love/hate relationship ... Hmmmm ... sounds familiar somehow ....) Just an FYI, my problem started when I HOT swapped two monitor cables on my Matrox P750 card. I used to do this regularly with my ATI card, seems the new P750 ain't gonna play nice, like the ATI did. Hope this helps (and saves you alot of re____ time!! Good luck, Ter |
