Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
Just saw this on my Facebook page and checked it out. Pretty pricey IMO, but definitely a step (no pun intended) in a good direction:

Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
Yeah I've seen this pedal before. I actually think it came out about a year ago or so but was only available direct from Mission. Its actually $10 cheaper if you buy it directly from them http://www.mission-engineering.com/M.../Products.html
Though it 'may' be cheaper from Sweetwater once shipping is figured in. EDIT: Never Mind, I was thinking of the original 11R Mission pedal (EP11) this one is the EP11-S |
Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
I'm curious as to how it works as a switch as well. IIRC, the original EP11 had no switch.

The only thing I can think of is that the switch creates a short in the circuit. I will try an experiment to see if pulling out the expression pedal cable shuts off the wah. It might be specific to the "EP11" option in the 11Rack. Quote:

Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
Alas, the 11R only has one expression pedal input, so there's no port on the 11R to hook that extra 1/4" cable to.
I think you need an external box to covert the toe switch to a MIDI CC. Or maybe someone jumped the gun and 11R mk11 will have two expression ports? :-) I don't even see this switch option on the Mission site. |

It's fairly new, and again "Sweetwater Exclusive" whatever that means. But it is odd that it's not on mission's website. |
Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
Yeah, I'd like to get to the bottom of this soon. I plan on buying a Mission pedal.
Since we're never going to get "expression pedal auto-engage" judging by how long that request has been on IdealStale, this two 1/4" plug seems to be one of the few options unless you buy a controller with built in foot pedals. The 11R guys did an excellent job on the user interface for this box. The only complaint I have is the engaging the Wah. They either need auto-engage, or they need to have at least 2 expression ports. |
Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
I sent an email to both Sweetwater and Mission to get an answer on how this will work.

Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
From Mission:
The Ep-11-S is designed to work with the Eleven Rack, but in conjunction with a midi foot controller such as the Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro. Simply put, plug both outputs into the GCP, and then Midi into the Eleven Rack. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GControlPro/ .....meaning Sweetwaters sight is misleading |
Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
Thanks V!
That's what I thought and what I was planning on doing. Nice to know I can get a EP-11 with a switch to do that. I was planning on buying one of their other, non 11R, pedals to do just this. So many hoops to jump through just to engaged a wah. :-( Since the Ground Control only has 2 expression pedal inputs, you'll use both of these for just the wah. If you want to add a second pedal for volume only, you'll have to route a TRS cable all the way back to the 11R. Which is possible. This is probably a good reason to include 4 expression pedal inputs in a controller built without a built in foot controller. |
Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
I've been working with this little MIDI widget for other reasons (i.e. mapping ER CC #s onto the range that my FC-300 can send).
http://www.midisolutions.com/prodepp.htm You could just as easily program this to give you auto-off for your MIDI wah pedal... :-) |

Re: Eleven Rack Expression Pedal
... and what's more odd about the product is that I assume to use the EP-11 with the Ground Control Pro, you'd actually flip the 11R switch under the pedal to put it into regular expression pedal mode - instead of the custom taper they've designed to work well with the 11R.
If you're going to hook up to the GCP, you can just get the SP-1 model. You can get the SP-1 in a bunch of colors (but not orange - one color is "metal"), and it's cheaper (not by much after shipping mind you). Sweetwater's EP-11-S seems like it would be good for "just in case you want to use this on the expression pedal input of your 11R one day". Otherwise, if you want proper wah control, you'll need another MIDI box. 11R mk11 must have more than one expression pedal input. I'd put it on IdealStale, but who reads that anymore. :-) |
