Default shuffle/spot/slip mode

I am trying to do some spoken word edits in PT SE and cannot figure out how to make the thing shuffle like in PT9. I want to cut a section in the region for an edit and have it move the portion on either side of the cut back together automatically without crossfades or moving the regions together. Anyone know how? There's gotta be a way.

The other thing I'd really like to know is if there is a way to apply gain to a region without using an insert. In other words change the overall gain of a track without inserting an effect on it and save it that way.
