Default SC1

Hello and sorry if my message is a bit outdated. I have a chance to purchase a samplecell 1 card for ($500) to put in my old Quadra900.
I've heard that it might need a firmware update for that. Is it true?
Where can I find literature on the SC1 on the web? I don't seem to have much luck looking for it!
Thanks in advance,
Elias Pondikos

There is a special piggy-back for the card (second board that attaches to the first) to make it Quadra compatible.

You can identify this board on the card you want to buy by looking at it's shape.

The non-quadra compatible boards are almost square. The quadra compatible ones longer than the other, it would be a distinctive rectanglular shape except one of the corners is cut off in a diagonal line.

I just purchased a used nubus SCI as well that's on the way - are both the "square" and rectangular cards nubus, or is the square one for a different type of slot?

I'm also interested in any net info on SCI.

Thanks,
GF

A SampleCell 1 is a SampleCell 1. When you see your card you'll notice that it really has 2 boards that are attached to each other making the whole unit look like a microchip sandwich.

This 'piggyback' as we call it comes in two varieties- the rectangular one which works on pre-quadra NUBUS computers and the other one which makes the SC useable on Quadras.

Thanks for the reply. More specifically, will an SCI card that fits into an old IIci fit into a Quadra? If not, what is required, an adapter? If so, where can I get one?

Thanks.

Ok this is where the different piggybacks come into play. When you receive your SC1 take a look at the piggyback card. The Quadra-compatible piggyback has a large diagonal cut along the card. I guess you could also just install it in the quadra to see if it works....

If your piggy is not the Quadra compatible version, you may have difficulty finding one- we haven't made those in years. The Telesales dept may have some info on you can can get one.. give them a call at (800) 333-2137.

It's possible that we should keep all us SC 1 cards in the trash? I've paid 1000$ four years ago for it !!!
Now I'm also using a Quadra 840 AV, only becose I don't will sell for 2000$ all my Nubus PT I (2 x 442 I/O + Sys Acc + Ext Chasis) system for a never that cost more than 5000$ !!.
And now it's not possible to find a stupid piggy-back ? In Italy we say VAFFANCULO.
Regards
