Default Fabric for Recording/Live Sound...

So i'm looking for Fabric for my studio and live sound set up. and i was wondering if anyone know's what type to get and good places to get it. I've mostly been looking for blockout/blackout fabric. but i can't find any good places to get it.

I'm mostly looking for live sound to help reduce reflections which will help reduce feedback. but i can also use some for my studio.

thanks
-matt

Do you know that foam fabric, the kind that people put under sleeping bags sometimes. It looks like the inside of an egg carton, almost like stalagtites. This is cheaper than most noise reducing fabrics and diverts the sound that is reflected so there is less reflected noise coming back in your direction. Are you looking just for vocals, or instruments also?

if you are trying to get rid of feedback.. i suggest just getting a stereo feedback detector on the system in the room. We have a few of them at my church and it works really well.. we deffinatly won't be able to get the volume we do without them. Try that out... other than that i sugggest thick curtains. we have them on our back wall to trap bass and reduce cymbol reflection.

Bun the Foam Matt is talking about is made for reducing the uper frequencys from bouncing around... so that might be good too.

Try a feedback detector.. it looks liek a 31 band equilizer but it has signal indicators above it. You push the volume till it feeds and then notch down the bands taht have solid lights... a little bit at a time. good luck. cya

I've found that any good thick fabric works well. Moving blankets or fire blankets work really well.

Also, Duct Board, used to insulate ventilation ducts, works really well.

You can use just about anything you want, just cover it up with a prettier cheaper fabric for looks sake.

i do it all the time
with out you saying anything about your situation its hard to help. but simply find a good operator, every venue should have 31-band GEQ on all sends so use them
assuming your in a band moving between clubs/pubs there just isnt enough time to hang up fabric when you should be setting up your equipment

start with the simple things like selection of mics, foldbacks, and positioning of them, look at IEM. sort that out and your half way there

I am the one doing the sound, and i have 31band eq's,

and the room is nothing but Hard walls and cielings.

nothing to dampen the sound at all, so there are a million reflections, also there is an annoying delay from the sound bouncing off of the backwall.

I am doing 4 shows this semester at a college and so far i've done 3 of them, and the last one i dropped down the large movie screen behind the band which helped out a little bit, but i need a better dampener, plus i am going to be doing another 3-4 shows there next semester also.

This was the best deal that I could find on egg crate foam:

http://www.foambymail.com

Go to the sound proofing section. I believe the 2 1/2" thick 72"x80" sheets were around $35. And free shipping for orders over $50. But if you really want to kill reflections you'll also need to get those triangle/pyramid shaped deals to fill the corners.
