Re: Anybody running ProTools with Mac Pro 8 Core yet?
My 8 core Mac just shipped. I will be installing an HD3 system with 8G of RAM. I will let you know what happens.... hopefully I didn't just shot myself in the foot...
I don't know how I will be able to tell if it's any faster. I sent back the 3Ghz quad system I just got 3 days ago and that thing was plenty fast... We shall see what the Mactopus can do!!! The only reason we upgraded was because we could still send the other computer back to apple and get the 8 core for a few hundred more... |

Re: Anybody running ProTools with Mac Pro 8 Core yet?
I am curious to know though - IS there LIKELY to be any difference when running PT TDM on an 8-core? I mean, if PT is not coded for the benefit of the extra cores, will it not run the same as on say a 3Ghz quad? I thought RTAS instruments only ran on one separate core; correct me if I'm wrong
I am in the same situation as you guys, just bought a 3Ghz quad myself and have the opportunity to upgrade over next few days - so I hope you get your machine up an running so you can spill the beans!!

Re: Anybody running ProTools with Mac Pro 8 Core yet?
Interestingly I notice on the VSL forum some third-party technical notes about initial impressions of the 8-core. Basically it is slightly faster than a 4-core overall - sometimes degraded vs a 4-core - due to memory access contention - ie - the processors demanding memory all at the same time and not being able to get it fast enough. Plus the fact that Leopard which should optimise the OS better for multiple cores is still a long way off from being released - now October. Hmm, is the 8-core machine released too early to be good value? Guys anyone got one of these yet?!

I heard on MacBreakWeekly that Digi supposedly said ProTools would not run on the 8-core, and most likely wouldn't for over a year. |
