I know this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find a solution.
We recently replaced our control room video display with a DLP rear projector. We are getting Syncheck to lock these numbers down. There seems to be about 29 quarter frames of delay. The problem is that our booth still has a CRT display (with about 14QF firewire delay) Even if we replaced the CRT with an LCD the delays wouldn't be the same. It seems like the solution is to insert an adjustable video delay box in the signal going to the fastest display (the CRT) to get the offsets to match, then use the PT sync offset to line up both. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find such a thing. The only video delays out there seem to be in the nanosecond range. Anyone know of such a thing... Or another solution?

Hi,
This one looks pretty good. http://www.ovation.co.uk/DelayLine/DelayLine.html However, I don't know the MSRP, and I haven't tried one. There must be more solutions. -CCH |

CCH, thanks for the link. I don't know why google didn't find that one for me. No listing of distributors, I'll have to look into it...

For those of you also trying to find a solution to the problem of syncing various video displays, here are my emails back and forth to Ovation. Seems the lowest switching resolution they have is .2sec which is about 6 video frames. I'm still looking for a solution...
Hi Craig Yes we can provide a DelayLine with a maximum delay of 3.2 seconds with a step size of 0.200 seconds. The price and delivery are the same. Best regards. David Millar Ovation Systems Ltd. Springfield Barn London Road Milton Common Oxfordshire OX9 2JY UK Tel: +44 1844 279 638 Fax: +44 1844 279 071 <http://www.ovation.co.uk/> -----Original Message----- From: From Cerny American Creative remote site Subject: RE: RE: Video delay line Thanks for the response. What we are looking for is a delay line with a shorter maximum-maybe 1.5 seconds - and finer control of the delay- delay settings per quarter frame. Do you carry such a device? ----- ------- Original Message ------- ----- From: "David Millar" Hi Thank you for your enquiry. The price of a a DelayLine with a maximum delay of 15 seconds adjustable in 1 second steps is $ 806 US Dollars excluding delivery. Best regards. David Millar Ovation Systems Ltd. -----Original Message----- From: Cerny American Subject: Video delay line My studio would be interested in using your video delay line to sync the picture of a CRT and DLP display. Do you have a U.S distributor? What is the MSRP of the Video Delay Line? Craig Lee Cerny American

Hi,
I remember a thread about this between several forum heavyweights and found it. http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...=&sb=5&o=&vc=1 Two devices are listed, and they might be what you are looking for. -CCH |

Both boxes accept only composite video, which is not even the best signal for standard definition. For a small screen its probably okay, but its something to consider. There are 4 or 5 manufacturers I know of with the same limitation, all around 1k dollars or a little less. You could go to an SDI delay for better quality for many thousands, but still standard def. B&M has HD-SDI delay lines, way too expensive to consider seriously and I don't think they have small step adjustments since they are designed for live to air delay (to replay an event or hot-edit bad language). I am not aware of anything that can be used for DVI or HDMI.
In other words, its cheapest to live with the problem, or maybe with the falling price of monitors choosing some that have similar latency. I've used Syncheck in a store while shopping, the salesman enjoyed it.
