Default Multiple ARA on Track Not Possible?

I’ve tried to google this and must not know the right keywords.

Is it only possible to use a single ARA effect per track in pro tools? Say I want to use Acoustica to do some edits and then Melodyn after to tune. It seems like this is not possible. Is there anyway to accomplish that?

Only one ARA process at a time. Use one and render it. Then use the next.

Bummer, that seems like a major deficiency of ara compared to plugins where you can freeze the plugin but still go back to it and unfreeze if additional changes are needed. I guess ARA is more like doing destructive edits

  1. Dup playlist
  2. First ARA process
  3. Render
  4. Dup playlist
  5. Second ARA process

Repeat as needed. That way, you can always get back to any prior state.

Not ideal. Specially when editing vocals where melodyne + RX is such a great combo...

Hopefully multiple ARA processes can be had simultaneously in the future..

Personally, I'm amazed that it does what it does at all. When you consider what is going on, expecting to be able to do multiple functions just(to me) sounds like a recipe for disaster. Patience, grasshopper....patience

It would be nice, but it's a lot to ask for when you consider what's going on under the hood.

Would be nice even just to have a freeze function. I understand only having one "active" ARA effect at a time, but seems like it shouldn't be so hard to be able to freeze one and then move onto another (with the ability to then suspend the second ARA and go back to the first to make changes). Basically, what was described duplicating playlists, but make it behind the scenes.

Otherwise, with the duplicating playlist method I'm assuming it would be a lot of work to roll back to an ARA earlier in the process. You'd have to redo each subsequent ARA in order to get back to where you are.

What you have to do is save each of your settings so you can get back to it and adjust from there. Let's say you've used RX ARA, rendered the track, and are half way through Melodyne in ARA when you find you need to remove a little more noise from a spot.

Render the Melodyne you've done so far, copy just the spot that needs redone from your original audio to the RX rendered playlist, redo the RX just in that region, render, copy the rendered audio just from that spot to the rendered Melodyne playlist, turn Melodyne back on, and keep going. It sounds complicated to write it all out. But it's so logical that it's actually quite easy to pull off.
