Default Serato Pitch \'n Time vs/Soundtoys Speed

I remember I had the chance to compare these two under OS 9 and was not impressed by Speed, while Serato always proved to be solid, even when compressing/expanding entire mixes. Have things changed under OSX? Thanks.

Not much. Pitch n' Time is still a much more flexible tool.

They both sound like [bleep] if you time compress / -expand dialog. Digi TCE rules there!

Hello. In my opinion Melodyne beats anything out there in the market. It is a wonderful tool for music and sound design, invaluable. It has a learning curve but it is definitely worth the time and money. I will also agree with bad jitter that for the spoken voice, the Digidesign TCE is excellent.

I agree that for many things, Melodyne is king.

Pitch n Time is still the best for phase accuracy across multiple tracks and rock solid timing in spite of its side effects. Of all the ProTools pitch shifters, for mono tracks, the Waves plug-in sounds far away the best to my ears.

Prosoniq "Time Factory" does and incredible job.. It takes a while to process, but it is every bit worth the wait. I only wish it was a PT plug-in. I don't understand why other time/pitch plug-ins do not have quality control parameters (including all of the plug-ins listed above).. Most of the time I don't mind waiting for a higher quality output..

Melodyne is the best sounding but only for monophonic sound sources and it has to analize the audio before it can work any DSP out on it. The Roland vari hardware (such as the VP-9000 onwards) is about the same as Melodyne too. P&T is better than Speed which badly needs an update IMHO, there are better algorhythms in existance now if Speed is to stay in the market. I would love to see Sony and TLLabs tackle this one.

I have to admit I haven't even tried Digi's Audiosuite TC/E recently. It used to be just godawful under OS9/PT Mix v5. Has it gotten that much better? Will it C/E stereo music tracks as well as the others? I'm currently running HD2 Accel under PT 6.9. Of course I'll go ahead and try it again for myself, but I was eyeing Serato P&T pretty seriously. It'd be nice if I could avoid springing for the pretty serious $$ it costs...

For stereo music nothing beats Serato Pitch 'N Time, Digi TCEX sounds horrible.

Do, Digi TCE doesn't sound good with stereo music. But it sounds often good with mono dialog (this is where Pitch'n'Time sucks). Pitch'n'Time also tends to make dialog sound bad (distant, thin, phasey...) when time compressing or expanding stereo film sountracks. But it still is a great plug-in for some other purposes.
