I'm angry and sick of searching the DUC--answer me

Thanx for visiting.
Ever since I upgraded to 9.2.2 (I'm the guy afraid of the numbers 10 and 6) I have had a problem setting the Sound Extension on my G4/dual 533 to allow me to open PTLE 5.2.1 without that stupid "hardware is not installed, someone else is using it" message. Before I went from 9.1>9.2.1>9.2.2 I could open a session AND play .wav & .mp3 thru Audion without fiddling with the Extensions Manager EVERY FRICKIN' TIME. I know it is user error in some setting or that I didn't dump something in the trash or something else. Would someone PLEASE answer with a bonehead procedure for fixing this?

You have the sound extention set to built in ?

I'm sorry--my ANGER somehow pre-empted my giving details:

Input>CD>Mute is Unchecked
Output>Digidesign is Highlighted
Output>Built In is NOT highlighted

*I notice that if Built In is checked Mute that CD box gets muted also. That prevents me from using the Audion playback engine thru the 001--but the PTLE does not stall with the "get some hardware" monologue. So how do I get the best of both worlds???
