Default Need some computer spec advice please

I am running PT MP9.0.5 on a PC with too small a processor (Intel Pentium B940 dual core). I have been offered a good deal on a computer with an AMD A8-4500M quad core processor. According to the specs on this, it has a speed of 1.90 GHz. As far as I can tell, this computer meets all the other Pro Tools recommended specs. Does anyone out there know if the AMD A8-4500M is suitable?

AMD is a total crapshoot these days. Years ago, sure, but not now(unless someone with the exact setup is having success). Your best bet is an intel i7 socket 2011/X79 mobo/16GB of quad-channel RAM. Not the cheapest route, but IS the best and most dependable route. My second choice would be the older i7 socket 1366/x58 mobo and 12GB of triple-channel RAM. Not new or sexy, but solid as a rock for less money. I would pass on the socket 1155/1156 stuff myself(some have had success, I did not). The "i7 Builds" thread in the LE on Windows section is a fantastic source of info, parts, tweaks and more

BTW, 1.9GHz is pretty slow with all the 3GHz and up systems available....

Hey, I hate to say it but hes right. I have a PC with AMD Phenom ll X4 Quad-Core processor that runs 2.80GHz and I cant run Pro Tools MP 9. I have to get a new computer now. After I spent all this money on this computer and new hard drives. So yeah, get a mac, avoid the headache. Or you can end up like me. Thousands of dollars worth of stuff and not being able to record anything....

A8's and A10's are the Fusion Processors with integrated graphics at the chip level. Great idea for a desktop. But I'm not sure that its the best idea for Pro Tools.

You would have to disable them in the bias then run an external video card

Hey wait a minute I had that exact same processor black edition 965 that ran on XP and Windows 7 and it worked just fine

Sure it had less power than most Intel processors but for me it did a good job

I was running it off of an Asus M4A79t deluxe motherboard - Which had the AMD 790 chipset - Socket a.m. three - worked fine - till Focusrite Interface decided it did not want to be detected by windows anymore which had nothing to do with the CPU - They dropped the ball on a lot of people

Which is why I got a Mac and yes tons of less headache - But that CPU for me worked great - I'm planning on building a hack soon as I can sell my Mac Pro with a i7-3930K hexa core

How much you want for the Mac Pro? lol Funny thing is, Avid Tech went into my computer and tried to get it to work. MY computer meets all the basic requirements but Pro Tools keeps freezing. Now mind you I had nothing else on my computer. It was pretty empty. Just having the basic stuff needed to run. Everything up to date and all. Weird. But yeah I was looking into building a Hack as well. Definitely the best way to go these days for the price.

Yeah i know - was trying to get $1100 out if it - most likely it has to go cheaper- most people who wanna pay that would not even consider or don't know about a hack
