Is there a way of checking the Ethernet port is working?

After going round all the options, it is starting to look as if the Ethernet port is at fault on my Artist Mix.

Is there any way to check that it is working?

When I plug the AM into the router, I don't get a green 'Handshake' LED on any port, with any cable, and when bypassing the router and going straight into the Mac, I get:

"Either the cable for Ethernet is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding"

(I have tried both DHCP and Static IPs)

Does anyone have any suggestions?
