Default lost data - happy ending

Here’s something: Last Saturday morning, I “saved copy in” a session to 2 separate external hard drives. I ejected one drive and for whatever reason didn’t eject the other – I think the phone rang and I got caught up in that and forgot about it. I worked all day with the other drive plugged in, did a bunch of cutting and pasting regions, time shifts etc. Strangely, the rig was being sluggish and at some point I decided to consolidate the session tracks as it had been on my to do list, but I knew that I had other work to finish up before doing so – which I did during the day. I “saved as” first to my internal drive, consolidated, then cleared unused regions from the session only. I intended to do another “save copy in” to the external then, which I should have, but whatever silly reason, ran the pt toolkit and deleted prefs and databases, to possibly further assist in the sluggishness. Then I ran CCleaner, fired her back up and I got an “11 pieces of missing audio” message. I chose to automatically relink which got me nowhere - same thing manually - nothing. I opened up earlier versions and got the same “11 missing” message. Around then I noticed that my external drive was still connected, so I opened up the “saved copy” session from the external that I did in the morning. Not only was all the audio present but the saved session contained all the work that I’d done during the day since the “save copy in”, and up to the point when I deleted prefs/databases, and ran CCleaner.

Now, is this supposed to happen? It was a nice surprise especially since relinking came up with nothing and the drive was connected to the puter’. Hope I’ve been clear. Sometimes it’s harder for me to verbalize these freakish incidences than to actually experience them.

Any thoughts?

Dave
