Default Scripting SDK access

Hi, is the scripting SDK primarily for registered developers? Do I need a license key to evaluate? Is individual non-commercial use allowed or encouraged? Will individual access be "permanent" (subject to rules) or is this a trial? Thanks

Hi and welcome. These are great questions - we have updated our Pro Tools Scripting SDK FAQ page to address these and more.

To quickly summarize: you do need to register to gain access to the SDK materials, and you will need to generate a license key to test your SDK client application. Non-commercial personal use is certainly encouraged and you can renew the 90-day license as many times as needed. If you wish to acquire a permanent license then you will have to apply for that, which would be subject to additional terms.

I hope this helps!

Hi!

Can I distribute parts of the SDK (specifically just the .proto file) for public non-commercial use, like in a GitHub project?

Also along these lines, what license is the SDK distributed under? And can elements of the SDK (like specifically the .proto file) be distributed alongside open source components as part of an installation package?

(Edit) Like specifically my python client is up and running and ready for use, it can be distributed without the proto file but it makes maintainability impractical; maybe Avid would be interested in hosting or otherwise supporting implementations for other languages?

Here are the terms and conditions for the Pro Tools Scripting SDK Toolkit:

https://my.avid.com/cpp/Content/doc/...ickthrough.pdf

This includes the license terms for the Pro Tools Scripting SDK. The Pro Tools Scripting SDK is not provided under any open-source licensing agreements. For your Python client project, you will need to exclude the .proto file and direct users to Avid for obtaining this or any of the other materials in the SDK. If you have any other questions regarding the licensing agreement then you can contact Avid's Audio SDK team at [email protected].

We have added this information to the FAQ page as well.

Thanks, I’ve kinda lost interest in doing this but it’s very helpful information.
