Import OMF not relinking missing files
Hi everyone,
I am trying to import an OMF file into two PT versions with the same result, which is that PT won't relink the missing files. I've tried several combinations on the Linking Options Window, without success. I've tested relinking some files by using the "Find All Candidates" option, but that becomes a very long process specially if there's 1100 files to link. I've never encountered this issue before and I was wondering if anyone of you could help me out to solve this problem. Thank you for your time and help in advance! Pro Tools Ultimate versions 2019.2 and 2021.7 Mac Mini i7, 64Gb. Last edited by marclop; 01-03-2022 at 07:01 AM. |

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
I haven't encountered OMF files in probably a decade but generally files that don't link even when you can see them in the finder is usually caused by a corrupt database. Just delete it (easiest with Peter Gates' PTPrefs tool) and restart PT and see if that helps.

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
So this is a referenced OMF, right? Is the OMF file in the same folder as the audio files? If not, try this,

Do you mean that the Pro Tools database could be corrupt? |

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
Yes, there's the OMF file and the audio files in their separated file.

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
I have the same thing happen from time to time. Try linking by file name only.
It'll give you a warning but just try it out. Should work fine. You have to do it one at a time. This is why I always ask for Embedded OMF's. |

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
I did try that earlier, among other combinations without any luck, unfortunately.

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
Yes, could be. Quit PT, delete the Database and try again. The DB will be re-created.

Linking by file name only is definitely a thing to try. Buy I wouldn't say Embedded OMFs/AAFs are better...on the contrary. We always import Embedded OMFs/AAFs with "Force to target (wav)" as I have seen far too many sessions not being able to re-link to an embedded file, when the session is opened after a restore or on another PT system. Referenced AAFs were also always the better (only working) option for Field Recorder Workflow (although nowadays it depends). OTOH asking for Embedded or Referenced AAFs also depends if they will be coming from Premiere/MC/Resolve/... With Premiere generally Embedded seems to work better etc. For every new big project I ask for a workflow test first, because of these inconsistencies.

Re: Import OMF not relinking missing files
This sounds like an export from Adobe Premiere?
Try file name only, but also uncheck Match Duration |
