Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
I'm an undead goat and just wanted to add to my support for a possible cross platform Carbon that works for both Mac and PC, as I have both systems.
I'm not a tech specialist so regardless of if it's drivers, firmwares, adapters or dongles I'd just straight up buy it tomorrow no ifs ands or buts. but that's the thing, I'm not about to drop another 4 grand to be gimped all over again. hopefully avid or windows come up with a solution so that I won't have to rely on my demonic boogie woogie Last edited by Undead Goat; 05-06-2022 at 05:59 PM. Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
Personally I would not hold my breath
I'm by no means a tech geek but seems to me from what I have read it is both a software issue and a hardware issue . Again I could be off here but seems it would take #1 Avid having to either implement both the software/firmware and or (as you asked ) for second connection protocol to TB or USB C and add that and HW connection and software coding to make that work ___ and then there is the issue that the current expansion protocol for the additional Carbon Pre/s is AVB #2 Windows would have to recode to accommodate AVB #3 PC manufactures would have to implement AVB So the question Avid would naturally be asking themselves would be:::can we expect sufficient purchases and return from windows users to make it economically feasible enough to consider it . And even if all that were accomplished it would likely up the Cost of Carbon AND you would have to also purchase a new AVB compatible PC as well.. Which then brings up the question, given the above .... is switching to Mac objectively out of the question ? Especially since even with the high end M2 Pro Mac mini W/ 32 GB memory and 1 TB storage and a modest 3rd party Display your looking at $2k to $2.4K and much less with any lower tier Mini Now I can say ,,, as Kyle said way back 2 years ago (and I can say from personal experience ,from using an Avid Omni and PTHD Native as my prior system ) Using the Carbon for recording just seems/feels more "live in the room and present " then My Omni system did and that is true regardless of recording with plugins or dry (which what I also did with my Omni)

Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
Unfortunately, I am unable to afford a new system at this time. I have a fully working Windows system wich a paid quite a bit for
so I cant justify going out and buying Carbon and a new expensive Mac now. Here in Norway that would set me back over $8000 dollars. |

Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
Hey understand completely just trying to point out even if Avid did implement windows compatibility odds are it would require a new Windows computer with AVB ability and you would be in the same boat.

Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
Is there any idea to access Carbon via Thunderbolt as a way to support WinPC?
I think that the environment can be shared to some extent if access is based on the Thunderbolt standard. |

Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
Has anyone tried using the RME Digiface AVB with a Carbon on Win? Not a cheap experiment, but cool if it works.

Re: Carbon and Windows 10?
I doubt there is any way that would pass any of the special Carbon magic.
Mac only AVB here was a bizarre design decision when they could have just gone USB (let alone Thunderbolt). Just give up and buy a RME interface. |
