Default control surface question

I am interested in getting some sort of control surface for my PT HD2, the command 8 seems so basic and at the low end of the spectrum while the control 24 is slightly out of my budget at this time. Should I wait to see if Digi will ever update the command 8? I would hate to buy one just for it to be updated in 6 months. Does anyone have any other preferences or advice?

We're still on the old Mackie HUI here. It works great, and definately fit into the budget. I've seen them as low a $400-$500 these days.

I'm running a tascam fw-1884 I picked up used. Expandable using fe8 to get you additional faders. Works great. As already mentioned Mackie HUI is a good solution to. I chose the 1884 because I could get some additional channels if I ever needed them.

Control 8s are so cheap at the moment, I just decided to plunge. It still beats anything else out there that isn't Digi at that price range if you're operating Pro Tools. The Euphonix looks great, but you have to use it in emulation mode (HUI, if I'm not mistaken) which means its resolution is lower.

I waited for ages for the new C8 or whatever... just got sick of waiting.

Absolutely they are---however being this is in a Windows forum---I'm guessing he's using a Windows machine and therefore this option would NOT work for him.
