Default ProTools & Big Sur

Howdy Folks,

Is anyone successfully running ProTools Ultimate (with Local iLok) on an Intel Mac running Big Sur at the moment? The Avid website claims versions post 2021.3 are supported;

https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/artic ... ur-Support

We are using the latest build, but on testing this we are experiencing instances of failure to launch and/or crashing. We have also tested an install without plug-ins and try and narrow this down a bit, but with no improvement; (almost) any thoughts, advice or experiences welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I'm running 2020.11 on the latest version of Big Sur. I get some occasional crashes when opening sessions, but otherwise it's stable.

2021 is the supportable version with Big Sur:

2020 will probably work, but as you said, you're seeing issues.

Have you experienced any graphics lag or any problem with PT 2021.3.1 on macOS 11.3.1? I read somewhere else that there may be such problem, so I wanna see if it’s really any issue before updating my macOS. Thanks!

Latest versions of PT and Big Sur here -- it's all relatively stable. No graphics issues that are related to PT directly, though a couple plugins will lag when I enlarge their GUI.

All good here. Check whatever non Avid plugs and VIs you use to make sure they are compatible with Big Sur.

It's supported but not ready for prime time according to several higher up Avid
product specialists. They told me to NOT update to it unless I have no choice. I have been running my studio on major projects with Mojave for a couple of years and now just updated to Catalina and was surprised how seamless the update went. I am sure you are in a different position that myself, so maybe that is a have to situation. I know some people went back to Catalina, but not sure it's always possible.

The cpu spikes I would get occasionally are gone.
Only thing I miss is QT Pro 7, which kind of killed a way to bounce movie without problems. I figured out a workaround for me which I did a thread on. Forwarded the info to Avid, since a lot of users were still having trouble. It's only a problem for people in Movie Bounce and selecting just sections. It works from the front of the movie however without crashing.

Good luck with it all-:)

Losing QT7 Pro was a major bummer here, initially, but I've grown to prefer QT X. Dragging a bounced audio file into the movie is a breeze. It's an extra step (albeit a quick one), but I feel better not letting PT touch the video file.
