Few things:

Q6600 on the Intel P35 is still working great. I'm about to try it out w/ DDR2 800 RAM on a clean XP Home install. Will report back w/ those results. Also looking forward to checking out the Q6700 (2.66 GHz).

The Corsair HX520W is indeed that good and that quiet. Silent PC Review is a legit site. They do have advertising on there, but they are very objective and rigorous in their testing methodology. I've seen more than a handful of products get bad reviews on there.

The Noctua stuff looks very good, we're talking about the same people they also make the new 120mm quiet fans correct?
Yes, the same company. The 800RPM fan is the NF-S12-800.

Will do

Is the 520HX really quiet?. I mean silentpc has stated that it is the possibly the quietest PSU they've tested..... But I just get the feeling sometimes that some of these hardware review sites are saying everything is good and it makes me wonder if the manufacturers are paying them for A++ write ups
Silent PC Review is actually pretty good. Its the only place I know that goes to the trouble of lab testing the stuff and measuring the noise under varying degrees of load.

I was really happy with the Nexus I ordered last time around and it was damn near inaudible. The Corsair is quieter

The Corsair is SERIOUSLY quiet. I can hear the air moving through the power supply but not the actual fans.

If you need a PSU I would definitely recommend it.

The M12 Seasonic its based off of is almost as quiet.

Silent PC Review is pretty thorough and scientific about their testing. I trust them over some else's subjective opinion.

I have been happy following their recommendations.

The Noctua fans LOOK good , let me know what you think. I would like to compare them to the Nexus's 120 but dont need to order anything from ENDPCNOISE right now.

EDIT: reply beat by Auxsend1!

I'm new to the forum and have been reading the threads on best desktop for the last few days. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't seem to find out if anyone is using a new (available) mobo/processor with 001. I, like you, would like to be able to upgrade to duo core at some point down the road but can't afford it now. What have you decided about this issue? Thanks to everyone. It's a great forum but a bit of a puzzle for us 001 users.

Just bought the following for assembly tonight:

Asus P5K P35 (happy to be another guinea pig!)
Intel Q6600
Asus Nvidia 8800GTS
2GB OCZ DDR2800 (will up to 4gb in a fortnight or so)
2 x Seagate 400GB SATA HDD's
ASUS 18x SATA DVD burner

Also bought vista home premium, so will dual boot for a while until stability is no longer an issue.
Also adding a 320gb PATA drive so that I can have the O/S, Data (audio samples etc), and a seperate recording drive!

Putting all of this into my new Antec Take3 3U-rack mount case, as I'll be using this as a portable studio with my 002r, and for live performance with my band. Should be a tad more powerful than my current Pentium M 2ghz lappy ;-)

I'll get back with dverbs in the next day or so (fingers crossed).

I got my new replacement memory today and now the Kingston HyperX PC8500 works as they should, at 1066 MHz. The last kit stopped at 889 MHz and Kingston has been very helpful and sent me new ones.

The Dvebs got up from 244 to 250. So, plus 6 from 889 to 1066. That is 4 less than from 800 to 889 wich gives 10. Well, good anyway!

(Ohh yes, if i disable WiFi all values goes up with 4 Dvebs..)

Good deal! so if I understand you correctly with the WiFi off the increase in Dverbs from DDR2 800 to DDR2 1066 is worth a total of 14 Dverbs? Very cost effective!

Congrats!
