Only hear left side of headphones

Hello

This is the first time I've posted on this forum, am need of assistance. Just installed Pro Tools 8 with the Mbox 2 Mini, but when recording or playing back, I only get sound from the left side of headphones.

Have checked the headphones and they work fine, and the I/O settings seem good. Have tried recording in mono and stereo but same both ways.

I've noticed quite a few threads where people have had this problem, but they never seem to be solved. Is it a common glitch in the Mbox 2 mini? Or have I missed something in Pro Tools?

Also I'm not sure if it might be something to do with using a mono 1/8 to 1/4 inch jack and not a stereo one, but I'd presume I should still be able to hear the same thing coming out of both sides of headphones, not just left.

If anyone can shed any light I'd be mighty appreciative.

If you're talking about using that adapter between your interface and monitors, that IS your problem and would definitely produce the results you are experiencing. You MUST have a TRS(tip-ring-sleeve) stereo adapter to accomplish what you're after.

ahhh ok. yeah makes sense. I'll get a stereo adapter and try that

Yes indeed, you need the adapter to be stereo thru and thru. Also, don't fall for the typical newbie mistake of trying to record your vocal mic(or guitar or whatever) to a STEREO audio track. Mono signals(any single mic) should get recorded to a MONO audio track. Let the learning begin! We'll be here when you have more questions

haha cheers. yeah i was doing that but quickly learnt that that's not the way to go about it!!
